After a 25+ year art hiatus, I’m back in the saddle. These are the results. Enjoy!

Well hello! I’m still here. This summer has been a busy one and unfortunately studio time has been at a minimum. And while art production has been low, its consumption has been full speed ahead. We just returned from 2 weeks in Italy, mainly Florence and a few days in Rome. Here’s a few photos of the trip. I’m ready to get back into the swing of things after getting an eyeful of all of these amazing pieces and architecture. New work coming soon as I prepare for the Grand Detour Arts Festival in September. If you’d like to see some work up close and personal before that, there are still several pieces at Crafted Roots in Sterling IL.

18x24 pan pastels on black paper. My attempt to be as loose and as fast as possible. Not real loose for most but is for me. lol. Time lapsed down to see the process.

Probably the best advice I was ever given as an artist was to photograph everything you do. I’ve gone back to these old pieces so many times. As you learn and become more proficient, it obviously happens gradually. You don’t always see how you’ve progressed and honed your skills. Here is the first piece I did on black paper and a more recent one. The difference, when seen next to each other, shocked me. Now to be honest, I’m not trying to get to photo realism, but I am trying to interpret a piece in a realistic manner while still showing evidence of the process used. Or in other words, being able to see the “hand of the artist” in the work. All of that aside, the bottom line, take pictures of your work

These two members of my “Bluesman” series are heading to their new home. I’ve had them in various shows and exhibits over the years and now the right person has come along at the right time. I’ll miss them. It’s weird, but I will. I feel that way every time a piece moves on. But it’s an honor to know that someone else will now display them in their home.

Another wonderful evening of art and support at the Art Dash for Serenity Hospice of Oregon IL is in the books. It’s amazing to see the turnout of both donating artists as well as supporters for this cause. I’m very thankful to be able to have been included for all five years of its journey. Thank you to all who came out to support such a wonderful facility.
