Frankenstein's Creature is cast.

Alejandro Lujan

Thank you to all those who auditioned. I hope to see you again in the fall when we cast the rest of the show. Casting is always a difficult task. I enjoyed Alejandro's sense of humanity in his interpretation of the Creature.

Frankenstien - Creature- AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

Audition Focus: The Creature

Auditions will be held Thursday April 30 at 5pm in the Workshop Theatre

Your audition will encompass four parts.

PART 1: THE CREATION PHYSICAL SEQUENCE
PART 2: VOCAL EXPLORATION
PART 3: TEXT INTERPRETATION
PART 4: PARTNER IMPROVISATION
You will perform all four parts in the audition. Please read and prepare for the audition.

PART 1: THE CREATION PHYSICAL SEQUENCE

This is the heart of the audition.

Use the information below to create this moment to bring with you to the audition.

Instructions:

You are newly alive. You do not yet understand your body, your voice, or the world.

Build the following sequence:

Stillness
You are inert. No life. No awareness.

First Impulse
A small, involuntary twitch. Something begins.

Awakening
Breath enters the body. Muscles resist. Coordination is unfamiliar.

Discovery
You begin to explore movement. Limbs feel heavy, disconnected, or strange.

Awareness
You realize: you are alone.

Need
You reach for connection—something or someone beyond yourself.

Rejection (imagined or real)
The world does not accept you.

Response
How does your body and spirit respond?

Note to actors:
There is no “correct” version. We are looking for specificity, risk, and commitment.

PART 2: VOCAL EXPLORATION

The Creature does not begin with language—it struggles toward it.

Instructions:

Begin with breath only
Add sound (nonverbal)
Gradually attempt speech
Speak the following phrase:

“Don’t leave me.”

Repeat it multiple times, allowing it to evolve:

As a question
As a plea
As anger
As confusion
As something barely human

PART 3: TEXT INTERPRETATION

I then want you to combine everything from above into the following text.

Memorize this text below. this will be your reading. It is from Mary Shelly's Frankenstien

“I am alone and miserable.
Man will not associate with me.
But one as deformed and horrible as myself
would not deny herself to me.
My companion must be of the same species,
and have the same defects.
This being you must create.”

Focus:

Thought over performance
Emotional clarity
The need beneath the words

PART 4: PARTNER IMPROVISATION

Actors may be paired with a reader.

Scenario:
You encounter another human being for the first time.

Objective:

Seek connection
Be understood
Be accepted
Given Circumstance:
The other person is afraid of you.

I am watching for:

Emotional shifts
Tactics
Presence and listening

FINAL NOTE TO ACTORS

This audition is not about perfection. It is about creation in the moment.

I am looking for an actor who can:

Transform physically
Take risks
Access vulnerability
Live truthfully in unfamiliar territory
If you have questions. Contact me.
