What do you want your child to get out of art class?

At Hive Studio, we want kids to do more than complete a project. Our classes help students build real art skills, gain confidence, and learn to think like an artist. We want them to leave feeling more capable—and excited to keep making art on their own.

We have a few new classes starting soon!

🎨 Art Lab (Ages 5–8)
A hands-on introduction to art for younger artists. Each week, students experiment with different ways to make art. It’s a great place to try things out, get messy, and figure out what you like.

🎨 Art Foundations (Ages 7–10)
This class focuses on the building blocks of art, including color, line, shape, value, texture, and space. Students work with a variety of materials and techniques and learn about important artists throughout history.

One Hive parent shared: “This has been all my 9 year old son has talked about. He now paints every few days on his own. I’m so grateful for the opportunity for him to learn here. Excellent teacher.”

Such a great opportunity for kids to have their work in a real art exhibition!

Entries are free and open through January, so there’s plenty of time to create something and submit it. If your child wants help deciding what to make, feel free to reach out!

Calling all young artists! 🎨✨

ShenArts’ annual Youth Art Month Exhibition is coming to Handley Regional Library! K–12 students from public, private, and homeschool settings are invited to submit their artwork for the chance to be featured in this juried exhibition.

Selected works will also be considered for ArtScape, with up to three pieces chosen to become banners displayed throughout Old Town Wi******er beginning in June 2027!

Young artists, we can’t wait to see what you create! Apply here: https://www.shenarts.org/yam

Thank you to the Marion Park Lewis Foundation for your continued support of local youth art!

I loved seeing where our Advanced Studio students took this landscape project.

We started by looking at Vincent van Gogh’s expressive mark-making and exploring different ways to create depth in our work. Then we headed outside to observe and sketch pieces of nature that caught our attention. We chose our favorite shapes, textures, and details as the starting point for our own landscapes.

That’s one of my favorite things about Advanced Studio—students learn real art techniques while still having the freedom to make something that is completely their own.

Advanced Studio is for ages 12–18 who are ready to dive a little deeper into their art. Our Tuesday class is full, but we still have a few spots in the Thursday evening class. If you’re interested in joining, reach out about our prorated rate.

Junior Studio starts NEXT WEEK! 🎨

If your kid is always drawing, painting, making, or asking to try one more art project… this might be the class for them.

Junior Studio is a fun, skill-building class for ages 8–12. Over 10 weekly, 60-minute sessions, students will experiment with new materials and techniques, learn about artists and art movements, and build a strong foundation in the elements of art and principles of design. Each class gives them a chance to put those skills into practice and create their own original artwork.

We’ll be creating with printmaking, watercolor, pastels, drawing, and so much more!

Ages 8–12 • 60 minutes • 10 sessions

Spaces are limited, so if you’ve been meaning to sign up, now’s the time!

I’m feeling so supported by the community!

Our open house was a great success on Saturday. Even with a rainy start, it was nice to meet so many new families and see some familiar faces, too. Thank you to everyone who came out to see the new space!

The support has continued with fall class registrations rolling in. We have so many fun things planned for the coming months, and I can’t wait to see what students create, explore, and learn in the new studio.

Thanks for being part of this next chapter for Hive Studio. If you’re new around here, stick around—we’ll be sharing more of what’s happening at the new studio this fall!

One of my favorite parts of running Hive Studio is watching our community rally around local artists.

Last week, that support helped Alisa Ann Ogden sell more than half of the artwork in her solo exhibition! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Alisa's hard work. Watching Alisa share her artwork with the community and connect with visitors was a reminder of why opportunities like this matter. Congratulations, Alisa, on a successful show!

If you missed the exhibition, you can learn more about Alisa's story and view her artwork at specialolympicsheart.com

Be sure to follow Hive Studio to stay up to date on upcoming exhibitions, classes, and creative opportunities.
