Think quilt squares are reserved solely for bedding? Think again!

We have painted many beautiful barn quilts in the past but our favorites are always the patriotic ones. You just can’t beat the red, white and blue. So, just in time for July 4th, we had the privilege to hang 3 beauties this past week. The first is called “Sunrise Over An American Farm” and is located at 1009 Flint Hill Road, Caledonia, MS at the home of Linda Glasgow and family. Linda and her husband, Clyde (deceased), raised cattle on their farm. She named this barn quilt and said she knew Clyde would have been so pleased with it. We think he would be too, Linda. Hope you and your family enjoy this addition to your farm.

The second is called “Hay Hay and the USA” and is located at 409 Cherokee Rd, Columbus, MS at the home of Katie Jo and Adam Honsinger. This barn quilt was named after their oldest little boy, Hayden (Hay Hay). The red building, along with the painted windmill, really makes a nice statement and is quite the pretty picture. Welcome to the BBQT!

The third barn quilt is located at the Gilmer Barn located at 5129 Ridge Road, Columbus, MS. This property is owned by the John and Don Gilmer families and is known by most locals as “the old Anna Bell Sims cotton gin site”. The Gilmer families are long time Caledonia farmers and we are so honored to be able to hang this barn quilt named “Proud To Be An American” on this historic local landmark. Thank you for all you do to keep the family farming tradition alive in our community. We thank you for your dedication. Welcome to the BBQT!

Hung this beauty this morning for Matt and Leah Stone in Caledonia (1391 Seed Tick Road). Leah selected the design and the colors to match the front door of their new home. It turned out very nice! Thank you, Troy and Kathy Edwards and Jo Anne Burrage for hanging this for us. Welcome to the BBQT, Matt and Leah!

Steens, MS was added to the BBQT this morning! “The Fireman” is a beautiful piece of barn art painted by Dixie Peninger for the Steens Volunteer Fire Dept. It is absolutely breathtaking. The patriotic barn quilt was painted by Jo Anne Burrage with the help of her granddaughter, Addison Butler. This pretty barn quilt was hung on the Steens Community Center located at 118 Steens-Vernon Road. The VFD is located at this same address. Again, we would like to thank our volunteers for generously donating their time and talents to help make our county an agri-tourism destination. We could not do any of this without the support and assistance of the Lowndes County Supervisors and the road maintenance employees. They are always more than willing to help us hang our barn quilts on any publicly owned building or right of way. We owe you guys so much and we appreciate all that you do for us.

Days like today are the best. We had the honor of hanging a barn quilt for a good friend and neighbor, Mr Bert Damron. Mr Bert served in the Air Force honorably for 21 years and retired in 1981 at the rank of Master Sergeant after having served two tours in Vietnam and many other duty stations. He is currently in rehabilitation after taking a hard fall following knee placement surgery. His wife, Louise, was at home to see the installation and we cannot wait for Mr Bert to see it when he comes home. Silvia Ama, an Air Force spouse, painted this barn quilt as designed by Mr Bert. Her husband, Craig Ama, also an Air Force retired Master Sergeant, was so willing to hang this barn quilt for a fellow airman. The Air Force is a big extended family and we are fortunate to be an Air Force community where we look after one another. We wish Mr Bert a speedy recovery and we honor and thank him for his service to our country. God Bless you, Mr Bert. See you at home soon!
