My thoughts of being a son, and a dad.
Garth Brooks has a quote that as a parent you give your kids two things, the best of you and the worst of you and it’s their choice to choose. In this day and age of social media and all its distractions, distractions, distractions. I look back at my father and realize yes he gave me the best of him, and I take those values until my passing. Honesty, integrity, hard work, being who you are, standing up for what is right. And yes maybe I got some of the worst of him also, and now I’m trying to balance that. Trying to balance that with my own children.
When is it the time to be hard, when is it time to be understanding, when is it time to give in, and when is it time stand your ground. And it is now my kids time to start to choose what they want to take awav. And iust maybe want to take away. And just maybe someday when I’m gone, they’ll truly understand what were the important things to them about me as a dad.
In the meantime I will continue to do the best to lead them forward, maybe not always correctly, at least not in their eyes but always with the best intent, as my dad did. Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there learning and teaching and growing and loving.
