Ritika Shah is a self-taught, nature-inspired artist working primarily in gouache. Her intuitive practice explores composition, depth, light, and atmosphere through layered landscapes. She believes art is for everyone and loves teaching art workshops. Balancing softness and structure, her work evokes stillness and reflection, offering viewers a gentle invitation to slow down, pause, and reconnect with a quieter sense of presence.

Give it up for the calligraphy legend, and editor + designer of the new Speedball Textbook 26th edition, Carl Rohrs! Carl’s expertise and wonderful spirit are why we are so lucky to know him as a collaborater and member of our Professional Artist Network.

Carl Rohrs has been a freelance lettering artist & sign painter since 1977 and currently serves as the editor of “Alphabet, the Journal of the Friends of Calligraphy,” first from 1989 to 1992, and now again since 2015. In addition to being a teacher of Graphic Design and Lettering & Typography at Cabrillo College, Aptos, California since 1984, Carl has led calligraphy workshops around the United States and Canada since 1986, and internationally since 1993. In January of 2019, Carl produced the online course, “Losing Contact: Modern Pen Techniques,” and served as a contributor to the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and now 26th edition of the Speedball Textbook.

My name is Ritsuko FUKADA,
calligrapher and needle felting artist based in Nagano, Japan where I am teaching calligraphy and needle felting. I encountered the western calligraphy for the first time when I was a student in California, as I found my own name handwritten in breathtakingly beautiful Gothic script on my graduation certificate. I instantly fell in love with calligraphy as if it were destiny.

After coming back to Japan, I learned so many kinds of traditional scripts and modern calligraphy under my respected mentor Ms. Makiko ODAWARA for about a quarter of a century.

I am also a devoted catlover!

Anyone else enjoy the old TV show Last Man on Earth? Watching character Carol Pilbasian create illustrative journal entries as a scrapbook was a huge lightbulb moment for me to get on the journaling bandwagon. No need for high-tech printers/design programs or rooms full of supplies, just pen and paper will suffice. The Hand-Lettering and Journaling kit materials are so great on the go, they fit very neatly in a pencil case with room to spare!

Getting not one, but THREE fine-tipped brush markers that are waterproof in the kit is a huge bonus in my book! I love the superfine details achievable with the XS brush marker. It’s perfect for mimicking pointed pen or getting those fine little details in drawings. The Medium Calligraphy Brush marker highlights and bolds everything you do, so you can work rather large.
