These flowers make it truly feel like spring is here! These bright blooms were arranged for us by for .ldw and her gorgeous gallery reception last Thursday. The wonderful vase they’re in was handcrafted by our talented instructor ! The vase is called stone star and is available to any interested buyer looking to add a bit of class to their space. The vase is $180 but the looks are free, so come give the gallery, vase, and gorgeous flowers a visit before they’re gone! And a special thank you to all of our supporters, staff, and sponsors who made this gallery so wonderful.

In celebration of International Women's Day, we'd like to highlight two women who have devoted so much time, effort, and creativity to the arts and humanities. From our past, we'd like to show off works from the late Roxie Remley. Her kind, firey spirit kept things lively here when she volunteered, but it also shows in her art. Not only is our 2-D/ 3-D studio building named after her, we also have a permanent collection of her work, part of which is currently on display. From our present, we'd like to show off a collection of ceramics work from our dedicated Visual Arts Director and instructor. Kim's welcoming approach and patience puts her students at ease when she teaches classes here. When she isn't instructing students, she creates unique, beautifully detailed ceramic installations that draw you in with their 3-D features. Her artwork has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is held in private collections. Exhibition venues include: Mason City, IA; Atlanta, GA; North Charleston, SC; Lake City, SC; Fort Meyers, FL; Sheffield, England, UK. When she isn't being featured in a gallery, she also curates and runs our own main gallery, developing shows and finding artists. The Averitt Center for the Arts has thrived from the influence of these two women, and it will continue to in the coming years. Happy International women's day!

Students, do you recognize this professor? Well, we sure do! He's been singing all over Statesboro and now he's coming to our stage. Dan Larkin, a current GSU professor, has played his guitar all across the country opening for sold-out shows in places like Anaheim, California. His music influences stem from classic rock, some alt-country, and the singer/songwriter genre. He says that bands like Wilco, Deyarmond, Edison, and Whiskeytown as well as artists like Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers make up the sound he is floating around. His musical influences include Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, Ray LaMontagne, James Taylor, The Beatles, Radio head, Ryan Adams, and Tom Petty.
