As we near opening night, The Boys in the Band has been hard at work in tech—building the world, moment by moment.

This dynamic cast will explore friendship, identity, truth, and survival in a world on the brink of change. Each actor brings depth, nuance, and fearless honesty to a story that remains as urgent and electric today as it was in 1968.

Set in a New York City apartment in 1968, The Boys in the Band follows a group of gay friends who gather to celebrate the birthday of Harold, a sharp-tongued, self-deprecating man. The host, Michael, a lapsed Catholic with a drinking problem, prepares the party and welcomes a colorful group of friends: Donald, his insecure confidant; Larry, a promiscuous commercial artist; Larry’s partner Hank, a schoolteacher who left his wife for him; flamboyant Emory; Bernard, a Black library worker quietly enduring the group’s casual racism; and Cowboy, a naive hustler hired as Harold’s birthday present.

Tensions rise when Alan, Michael’s ostensibly straight and married college roommate, unexpectedly shows up. Alan’s presence forces the men to temper their usual behavior at first, but as alcohol flows and resentments surface, the party turns raw and confrontational.

Michael proposes a cruel “party game”: each guest must call the person they have truly loved and confess it over the phone. The game dredges up painful truths about loneliness, repression, and self-loathing. By the end of the night, Michael has spiraled into a breakdown, Harold delivers a cutting yet oddly compassionate rebuke, and the men leave with their vulnerabilities exposed but their friendships intact.
