(a/k/a Staten Island Ballet) is a §501 (c) (3) not-for-profit arts organization. It creates fully staged, professional performances year-round, and operates its separate Conservatory for dance training. Annual productions include the New York International Choreographers Festival, The Nutcracker, Dance Up Close ™ and Signatures, all featuring original ballet works and classic favorites performed by up to 30 dancers. Venues are the Williamson Theatre - CUNY Center for the Arts/Staten Island, and the historic St. George Theatre on the waterfront of New York Harbor. The Ballet provides a significant level of free and subsidized tickets to its public events. The Conservatory curriculum - conducted by acclaimed teaching artists - provides a classical regimen in dance and ballet arts training for all ages, and doesn’t involve any commercial activities such as recitals, costume sales, competitions, fees or other costly trappings. About one-quarter of its students receive scholarship aid. Students often advance into premier programs such as of School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre’s JKO School, The Rock School, the Kirov Academy, and LaGuardia High School and PPAS. Graduates have won roles on Broadway, appeared at the Metropolitan Opera and earned positions major dance companies. The Conservatory is recognized by the NYC Department of Education and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
