Come and see our incredible NVS musicians at Arts Fest this week! Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts

Our musicians will be providing background music in the Schlow Centre Region Library on Thursday, July 9 and Saturday, July 11. The library will be the host of this year’s Images 2026 Exhibition. We’re pleased to partner together to showcase incredible art and live music.

Here’s the performance schedule ⬇️

Brandy Davis, clarinet: July 9 at 1 p.m.
Cathy Herrera and Rebecca Richards, flute and harp: July 9 at 3 p.m.
Carol and Jim Lyon, cello and violin: July 11 at 1 p.m.
Nicole Felker, violin and viola: July 11 at 3 p.m.

Cool off and escape the rain with the Nittany Valley Symphony during Arts Fest! We are excited to present another Tapestry Series featuring the Herrera- Register Duo. This performance will be held at the Woskob Family Gallery on Friday, July 10 from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The Herrera -Register Duo is delighted to present a program filled with Musical Stories. Featuring NVS musicians Cathy Herrera on flute and Brent Register on both English horn and guitar, the audience will be treated to pieces that explore the colors of sound of the three instruments and include poetry, the spoken word or a backstory serving as inspiration.

This program will also feature The Funny Little Woman, adapted by Jill Campbell from the beloved picture book retold by Arlene Mosel and illustrated by Blair Lent, comes to life through storytelling, music, and dance. Storyteller Jill Campbell is joined by Ann Van Kuren of VanDance and Cathy Herrera on the shakuhachi (Japanese flute) to create a captivating performance inspired by this classic Japanese folktale.

Musicians from the Nittany Valley Symphony were honored to perform at the Nittany Performing Arts Showcase on Saturday, May 30.
The program featured a brass quintet led by principal trumpet player Herb McKinstry, joined by Susan McKinstry (euphonium), Helen Fleischer (horn), John Anthony (trumpet), and Jaden Adkins (tuba). Following the brass quintet, principal flutist Cathy Herrera performed alongside harpist Rebecca Richards. Audience members also enjoyed a voice and harp duet featuring vocalist Virginia Luehrsen and Rebecca Richards. The showcase concluded with a special performance by NVS Concertmaster Sally Williams Minnich and her husband, Mark.
The Nittany Valley Symphony is grateful to be part of a vibrant community of arts organizations that enrich life throughout Happy Valley. We are proud to support and celebrate the thriving arts culture that makes our region so special.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our annual geranium fundraiser! Thanks to you, the Nittany Valley Symphony delivered over 700 geraniums throughout our community. We are grateful for your support and for helping us keep music flourishing in Happy Valley while bringing a little extra beauty, kindness, and joy to neighbors who could use a boost.

Special thanks to Pam Aikey and her committee for organizing this effort, and the many NVS board members who assisted with delivery.

The Nittany Valley Symphony will be presenting a special chamber music performance at 1:00 PM in the Penn State Recital Hall. Admission is free, and we'd love to see you there!

• 1:00–1:05 PM – Introductions
• 1:05–1:25 PM – Brass Quintet featuring Herb McKinstry and Kelly Howdyshell (trumpets), Helen Fleischer (horn), Susan McKinstry (euphonium), and Jaden Adkins (tuba)
• 1:25–1:35 PM – Flute, Harp & Voice featuring Cathy Herrera (flute), Rebecca Richards (harp), and Virginia Luehrsen (voice)
• 1:35–1:45 PM – Violin Duet featuring Sally and Mark Minnich

Enjoy an afternoon featuring works by Bach, Copland, Vivaldi, and more, performed by talented local musicians from across the Nittany Valley community.
