Join us this Wednesday for a conversation between Stephen Mainzer, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, and B. Stephen Carpenter II, the Michael J. and Aimee Rusinko Kakos Dean in the College of Arts and Architecture. They will discuss Communicating Resiliency and Efficacy in a Digital Age: Mediated Communities (Emerald Publishing, 2025), a collection Mainzer edited with Juliet Pinto and Lola Xie that examines how mediated communication can help communities build resilience in the face of crisis.

Join us for a hands-on textile workshop exploring memory, personal journeys, and the stories held in materials. What story can a piece of fabric tell?

Create a 10" × 10" textile piece using thread, yarn, fabric, and found materials — knit, stitch, weave, collage, or glue. Bring something with a story: a piece of clothing, fabric from a family member, or a meaningful scrap. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

Optional materials to bring:
Yarn, thread, ribbon, or fabric strips/scraps, embroidery/tapestry needles, scissors, straight pins

Finished pieces may join the exhibition or go home with you. Open to all. No textile experience necessary.

Led by Charlene Gross, Associate Professor of Costume Design.
