Slow Fade Studio A family owned/operated tattoo studio that offers: custom tattoo art, permanent makeup & piercings In August of 2005, he officially got his dream career.
(745)

Matt and Chanel Cieutat founded Slow Fade Studio in December of 2009. Matt’s passion for art started as a toddler, when he would sit for hours watching the iconic Bob Ross. At 17 years old he answered an add in the newspaper from a tattoo shop in Mobile, Al looking to hire a piercing apprentice. It was his foot in the door to follow his dream of becoming a tattoo artist. In December of 2005 he met Chanel and they quickly fell in love. August 1, 2008 they were married and in July of 2009 they welcomed their first child into the world and it became not only his dream but Chanel’s as well to open their own family business. After watching the movie Fireproof, they knew the name of the shop would be Slow Fade Studio. On December 1, 2009 they opened in Spanish Fort, after 10 years they moved locations and are now located in their home community of Stapleton, Al. Matt enjoys many styles of art, his favorite is anything in color. He says, “Which would you rather have, a black and white TV or a color TV?” On his off days he enjoys being on his motorcycle, helping others with their projects, and spending time with his wife and daughters. He is a gentle giant(unless provoked)that loves helping others. He loves children and animals. His heart is the size of Texas and he wants to help others because he has suffered from so much heartache in life. He loves Marvel comics and TMNT, watching movies and music. He is big teddy bear. Don’t let his size fool you, he has a light hand, although due to his ADD he tattoos at the speed of his mind, extremely fast. After pushing her husband to follow his dreams, she never thought she would be confident enough as an artist to tattoo anyone. After almost 17 years of her husband believing in her abilities, but afraid to apprentice her because he was afraid of the conflict in constructive criticism towards his wife, she finally made the leap and officially began her apprenticeship. Chanel has a background in emergency medicine as a paramedic, firefighting, and working in mental health with children and adults. She has also been a piercer since 2009. Due to her background, Chanel is extremely empathetic and enjoys helping others. She has often times cried with many of our clientele and listened to them as they told their stories of the meanings of their tattoos. She loves people, but more so she loves children and especially those with different “abilities.” She has always had a passion for makeup and recently spent countless hours researching, practicing, and learning about permanent makeup. She enjoys helping women and men feel confident. She has always enjoyed painting and many times she has drawn pictures for customers that Matt has tattooed. Although, now she is tattooing them. Recently they hired Jeff, a headstrong, stubborn, loud, aggressive, yet funny, authentic, ambitious and determined guy that earned his nickname of Fuk’err. He started as just a friend hanging out. He quickly became family. After months of him being here daily helping with daily shop duties, line drawings and stencils, appointments, and customer service, he and Chanel were talking one evening and she asked him, “Why don’t you apprentice?” He said he’d love to but with a newborn baby and unable to pay for an apprenticeship he didn’t want to let us down. Although, he had dreamed of being a tattoo artist since the age of 10. The next day he was hired. He quickly blew our minds with his incredible talent. His apprenticeship didn’t last long because as Matt stated, “I couldn’t teach him anything more. He wanted it and he sprinted after his dream. I’m proud to call him an artist even more than I do brother.” Don’t be afraid of his aggressive tone, or smart ass attitude, because I’ve been told he’s “light handed!” He is great at traditional art and black and grey realism.

🖤 FOREVER 32 — HONORING WAMMY 🖤
🎣 A Legacy That Will Never Fade 🎣

October 9th, would have been our brother, our friend, and our family, Noah “Wammy” Wamsteker’s 32nd birthday. ❤️

We had hoped to celebrate his birthday by doing something special in his memory, but Mother Nature had other plans. With the hurricane keeping us from opening the shop, we’ve had to change things up a little. But if you knew Wammy, you know a little storm wasn’t going to stop us from doing something for him!

So, instead of celebrating him for just one day, we’re going to honor him ALL MONTH LONG!

Throughout the month of October, Slow Fade Studio — Tattoos & Piercings will be raising money for the scholarship fund established in Wammy’s name.

Wammy wasn’t just a friend to us. He was family. He was the kind of person who could make you laugh when you didn’t even feel like smiling, who would show up when you needed him, and who left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Losing him left a hole in so many hearts that will never truly be filled. But one thing we can do is make sure his name, his love for life, and the impact he made on this world continue to live on.

And what better way to honor him than by helping someone else build a future in his name? ❤️

This isn’t just about tattoos. It’s about remembering someone we loved, bringing our community together, and turning an unimaginable loss into something meaningful.

Whether you knew Wammy personally or just want to help carry on his legacy, we hope you’ll be part of this with us.

Because around here, family isn’t always blood, love doesn’t end when someone leaves this earth, and legends like Wammy deserve to live on forever.

Happy Heavenly 32nd Birthday, Wammy. We love you, we miss you, and we’re going to keep saying your name. Always. 🖤

Be safe in this nasty weather and be patient with people especially small businesses during this nastiness. Have grace and an attitude of gratitude. For example we need a new roof on our building but unfortunately we are not financially capable of paying for one at the moment. So please be patient with us while we work through this weather and find temporary solutions! Be safe on the roads and understand that flash floods can cause catastrophic damage and loss of life so be mindful of your surroundings and be prepared!

October is a month of awareness, remembrance, support, and compassion. At Slow Fade Studio, we want to take a moment to recognize several causes that touch so many lives and families.

💗 Breast Cancer Awareness Month
💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Month
🧡 ADHD Awareness Month
💗💙 Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month
🧡 National Bullying Prevention Month

Each of these represents real people, real stories, real battles, and real loss. Some struggles are visible. Others are carried quietly every single day.

This month, we stand with the survivors, the fighters, the families, the grieving, the misunderstood, the overlooked, and those still finding the strength to speak up.

We remember the babies who were deeply loved but held for far too short a time. We support those affected by breast cancer and domestic violence. We recognize the challenges and strengths of those living with ADHD. And we encourage kindness, inclusion, and courage in the fight against bullying.

You never truly know what someone may be carrying, so choose compassion whenever you can.

With love and support from all of us at

So as most of you have already seen, used, or researched, Ai has become a popular source of inspiration and information in the tattoo industry. However, often times it comes up with beautiful design that are simply unrealistic to actually tattoo onto the skin. For example the face silhouette of the baby with their birth flower on the side of a finger, and it looks like it would be such a cute design. However, the fingers are what we use the most, wash the most, damage the most and it’s very delicate skin. Often times tattoos on the hands and fingers need to be touched up multiple times before they will stay, and even then sometimes they don’t. They are very tender and easily scarred. So to tattoo a detailed side profile and a floral design seems great but in reality it’s not achievable. So when you send an artist a design that was made by Ai, keep in mind that a tattoo is not going to match a flawless Ai image perfectly.
Here are some pieces Chanel has done over the last week or two! Have a great day and tomorrow starts official spooky season!
