With less than a week before we're all back on campus, Quarter After is kicking off this new year with some musical spotlights. Starting us off, here's the beautiful Ellen Roper!

Ellen Roper, 19, is a local cellist and pianist who grew up in Los Altos, California. Part of the class of 2020, she is currently undeclared but is considering Stanford's Symbolic Systems or Computer Science majors.
Ellen has been studying cello for eight years and piano for fourteen. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching music to beginning piano and cello students. She has a long history with chamber music, having participated in numerous chamber ensembles while a part of Connecticut's Chamber Music Central Symposium and in various self-formed groups throughout high school and at Stanford. She was principal cellist for the advanced Los Altos High School Chamber Orchestra and for the New England Music Camp Symphony Orchestra and has participated in the Peninsula Young Artists program and the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. In high school, Ellen received the Director's Musicianship Award, a recognition selected by the music faculty and given to the top student in the Music Department. Ellen is currently playing in the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and participates in two chamber groups as part of the Stanford Chamber Music program. She is eager to continue to grow as a musician throughout her time at Stanford.
