Motown took his very first ride in the Mule today! ❤️

He wasn’t too sure about that noisy dump bed rattling behind us at first, especially going down that bumpy gravel road. 😂 But he did really good, and I think he actually liked it!

I may have myself a new partner for my Mule rides. ❤️🐾

And for those who haven’t seen Motown in a while, yep, my boy is starting to get gray. He’s definitely not a puppy anymore.

It’s been quite a while since Tim rescued Motown from the side of the road with a badly injured leg. At first, it looked like he might lose that leg, but thankfully the vets were able to save it with surgery. It was a very costly surgery, and so many people who followed Motown’s story helped us through the GoFundMe. I will always be grateful for everyone who helped us give him that chance.

And look at him now. All four legs, a little gray around the face, and riding around the farm in the Mule with me. ❤️ I know Tim would love seeing this.

Today brought me something I have desperately needed lately—hope.

Ned from Michigan AgrAbility, an MSU Extension program, came out to the farm today, and we talked about some of the challenges I’ve been facing trying to keep everything going alone.

During our visit, I learned that Ned is a fellow Christian, and he is going to reach out to the Fellowship of Christian Farmers International to see if there may be people willing to come alongside me and help get some things around this place repaired and back in order.

Before he left, Ned asked my permission to pray with me, and we ended our visit in prayer. That meant more to me than he probably realizes.

Nothing is certain yet, but for the first time in a while, I feel like maybe a door is beginning to open.

For those of you who pray, I would appreciate your prayers that God would order Ned’s steps, guide every conversation, and put the right people in his path.

I’ve been praying for God to make a way where I haven’t been able to see one.

Today, I have a little more hope that maybe He is.

The last three-plus months have been an incredible struggle. Truthfully, the last two years have been terribly hard.

From the time Tim’s health began declining, right up until now, I’ve been working, caring, problem-solving, and carrying the responsibility for the farm, the house, the property, the animals, and everything in between. And it’s wearing on me.

It’s been suggested to me that maybe I should sell everything, move somewhere where life would be easier, and spend my days enjoying retirement. But that’s never been the life I’ve dreamed about. I’m not someone who longs to sit on a beach all day. I love my home. I love my farm. I love my animals.

But this farm and this life were built around two people. And now there is only one.

Lately I’ve found myself wondering what God is trying to show me through all of this. Between Tim’s declining health, losing him, and everything that has happened since, I don’t know if God is telling me this chapter of my life is over, or if He is asking me to hang on and trust Him to make a way where I cannot see one.

I know that all things are possible with God and that there is nothing too hard for Him.

I can’t imagine my life without my animals. Honestly, every single day they have given me a reason to get out of bed, get dressed, and keep moving. They need to be fed. They need water. They need me. Caring for them has kept me moving forward, one day at a time.

This has been the hardest and darkest place of my life. Some days I feel like I’m hanging onto my faith like an anchor in a storm. There have been blessings in the middle of it, too, and I am thankful for every one of them.

I’m sharing this because I think sometimes we only share the parts of life where we can already see what God has done or is doing. Right now, I’m in the middle of it. I don’t have the answer yet. I’m still praying, still trusting, and still asking God to show me the way forward.

And maybe someone else needs to know today that it’s okay to trust God even when you can’t yet see where He is leading you.

“Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path…” — Psalm 27:11 KJV

It’s been a very challenging week—one that has required a lot of prayer. But through it all, I’m reminded again that God is faithful, and His promises are true.

Today, I looked up and saw this beautiful rainbow stretching across the sky over our house. It reminded me that no matter how difficult the days may be, God has not changed. He is still faithful. He still keeps His promises.

And of all His promises, the one I hold closest to my heart is the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” — John 11:25 KJV

That promise means more to me now than it ever has before. It reminds me that although I miss Tim every single day, death does not have the final word. Jesus does.

Sometimes God sends a reminder at exactly the moment we need one. Today, for me, it was a rainbow in the middle of a stormy sky over our house. 🌈

God is faithful. His Word is true. And His promises still stand.

The Mule was unofficially the Hoop’s Coop clown car yesterday. 🤡😂

Five of my grandkids piled in with me—three in the seats and two on laps. They absolutely LOVE riding around in that Mule. ❤️

We were packed in there like sardines, riding the farm and the dirt roads around the farm, laughing and joking and just having a good time. For a little while, everything just felt happy. It was a good day and will be a sweet memory for all of us. I loved having the five of them together. ❤️

I’ve always dreamed of owning a mule. I even wanted to be a mule skinner. 😂 Never in a million years did I think my first Mule would have four tires instead of four hooves!

Well, she’s home. ❤️ I found this old Kawasaki Mule 4x4, and I’m hoping she’s going to make some of the work around the farm a little easier.

But bringing her home today was very bittersweet. I kept thinking about how much Tim would have absolutely loved this thing. I would have never gotten him out of it!

If you’ve ever seen the movie Funny Farm and remember Red Dog, who took off running and they’d only catch a glimpse of him every now and then — that would’ve been Tim in this Mule. 😁 I’d have been out looking for him, only to catch a glimpse of him going by somewhere again. 😂

I can almost see him driving it around here. I sure wish he was here to enjoy it.

So my mule may not have four hooves, but I guess I finally get to be a mule skinner. ❤️

💗 Sometimes God sends exactly the encouragement you need.

Several months ago, Arthur and his mom bought Vorwerk chicks from Hoop’s Coop Eggs & Totes. They raised them into beautiful birds, and today one of those Vorwerk pullets helped Arthur earn a 🥇 Blue Ribbon in Showmanship! She also earned a 🥇 Blue Ribbon along with a rooster in their breed class!

I’ll admit, there are days when I question if all this hard work is worth it. Then I get a message like this, and I’m reminded that every early morning, every chore, and every challenge has a purpose.

Watching kids like Arthur succeed in 4-H with birds that began here at Hoop’s Coop is one of the greatest rewards I could ask for.

Congratulations, Arthur! I’m so proud of you, and thank you and your mom for trusting me with the start of your Vorwerk journey. Thank you for sharing your exciting news—it truly made my day! 💙

Watching my granddaughter with Sunny today made me smile. She may just be a future farmer. 🐴 💗

This was her very first year in 4-H, and I couldn’t have been more proud. She even took Best of Breed with her Deathlayers… which, I might add, came from her grandmother. 😄 Along with a few other rare breeds, of course!

As I watched her sitting on the fence with Sunny, I couldn’t help but think of Tim. He built these barns, these fences, and so much of the little farm she gets to enjoy today. The farm needs some repairs now, but it stands as a reminder of the years of hard work, love, and dreams he poured into this place.

There is something special about kids who are drawn to animals, hard work, and farm life. They learn responsibility, patience, compassion, and that caring for animals isn’t something you do only when it’s convenient.

Farmers don’t always get the recognition they deserve, but every meal we eat starts with someone who works the land or cares for livestock and poultry. Whether they raise corn, hay, cattle, horses, chickens, or vegetables, farmers help feed the world.

Seeing the next generation take an interest gives me hope. Maybe I’m looking at a future farmer. ❤️

Well… I finally did it. ❤️

Meet the newest member of Hoop’s Coop!

After a lot of looking, comparing, and praying, I finally found a truck! It’s going to make hauling feed, hay, supplies, and everything else around the farm so much easier… and a whole lot more fun! 😆

It’s a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 HD with an 8-inch lift, rust free from Idaho! …so I guess I’m climbing into my truck from now on! 😂

Tim was a BIG GM man. ❤️😂 He was definitely the practical one and always knew I wasn’t exactly wired that way. I have a feeling he’d be smiling about this truck.

And don’t worry… our faithful 1998 Silverado, “The Beast,” has more than earned a little rest. It’s tired and deserves to spend some time relaxing in the shade. 🌳❤️

Here’s to many miles, lots of feed runs, and making more memories here at Hoop’s Coop. Thank you to everyone who has supported this little farm along the way. It truly means more than you know. ❤️🐓🥚

🐣 These aren’t just eggs… they’re future little fluff balls already headed to a home where a broody mama is waiting to hatch and raise them. ❤️

I’ve already split up several of my breeding pens, so hatching egg availability is becoming more limited as more of my girls decide they’d rather be mamas than lay eggs.

Current availability:

🥚 American Bresse – by the dozen

🥚 Ermine Ameraucana – by the dozen
(Your hatch may include solid white, solid black, and beautiful ermine chicks.)

Very limited:
🥚 Shetland – half dozen only
🥚 Vorwerk – half dozen only
🥚 Deathlayer – half dozen only

All hatching eggs are collected fresh, dated, and handled with care.

If you’ve been thinking about adding one of these beautiful breeds to your flock, now is a great time to reserve your order before I wrap up the rest of this year’s breeding pens.

I’m also excited about next season! I’ll be adding a couple of new breeds to Hoop’s Coop Eggs & Totes, and I can’t wait to share them with everyone when the time comes.

Send me a message if you’d like to reserve your hatching eggs!
