“New England By-the-Sea”

The Mayor’s Gallery is proud to present “New England By-the-Sea” oil paintings by Jason R. Pritchard. The exhibit will be on display from September 1st thru October 30th, 2026.

Jason R. Pritchard is a British-born American artist whose oil paintings explore the atmosphere, light, and changing character of the New England coastline. Raised in East Anglia, England, his lifelong connection to the sea began with regular family trips to the coast and an early love of drawing inspired by the surrounding landscape.

After moving to New York in 2005, Pritchard studied oil painting at the Art Students League of New York, where he developed a style that combines careful observation with an emotional response to place. His work has been exhibited in New York, Long Island, and throughout Connecticut, and in 2020 he was recognized as an Emerging Artist by Cape Cod Art Magazine.

“I paint in oils to capture the atmosphere, light, and ever-changing character of the New England coastline. Whether working en plein air or in the studio, my goal is not simply to record a landscape, but to preserve the feeling of having stood there on a particular day.

Every painting begins with a visit. I walk the shoreline, observing the changing tides, weather, and seasons before returning to the studio to recreate not only what I saw, but what I experienced. Although I often revisit the same locations, no two days are ever alike, and that endless variation continues to inspire me.

Growing up in England, family trips to the coast created a lifelong connection to the sea. Looking back, I realize I've always been a collector. Today, rather than collecting objects, I collect moments by the shoreline. After painting more than 200 seascapes across Massachusetts (Cape Cod), Rhode Island, Maine and the Connecticut coastline, I continue to return to the shore, drawn by its endless changes and the quiet moments it reveals.

The Mayor’s Gallery is located on the 10th floor of Stamford’s Government Center. The City of Stamford which gives area artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in this space. There are six exhibitions annually featuring emerging and professional artists.

Thursday July 16th from 5 – 7 PM

The Mayor’s Gallery is proud to present “Turning Points: a curated collection” artwork by Stamford resident Jyoti Desai. The exhibit will be on display from July 1st thru August 28th, 2026.

The artists’ reception and dance performance is scheduled for Thursday, July 16th from 5 – 7 pm. American Ballroom dance by Jyoti Desai and Elmar Schmidt followed by Argentine Tango by Jyoti Desai and Gem Duras. The public is invited to meet the artist and view the dance performances.

After returning to painting in recent years, Ms. Desai has embraced a more intuitive and organic approach to abstraction. Her work combines bold, high-contrast compositions with vibrant color inspired by Indian textiles and visual traditions. Through layering, scraping, and reworking the surface, she creates paintings that reveal traces of their own making, allowing history, accident, and intention to coexist.

A lifelong passion for dancing has become central to her studio practice. The rhythm, balance, improvisation, and physical responsiveness required in dance directly inform her approach to paint. Sweeping gestures, shifts in tempo, and moments of pause echo the movements of the body in motion. Rather than illustrating dance, the paintings translate its energy and dynamism into visual form. By working between structure and spontaneity, control and release, she creates abstract paintings that are rooted in movement, color, and the physical experience of making.

The Mayor’s Gallery is located on the 10th floor of Stamford’s Government Center. The City of Stamford which gives area artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in this space. There are six exhibitions annually featuring emerging and professional artists.

Art at Emerson Hall: An Emerging Artist Community Showcase is officially open for applications! This free, three-day exhibition will fill the historic Emerson Hall with the work of 8–10 local emerging artists on October 16, 17 & 18, 2026.

We’re especially looking for artists with little to no prior exhibition experience.

✅ 16+ (under 18 welcome with parent/guardian permission)
