Learn how to recognize beats in the text that inform your character(s) of their objectives, obstacles, tactics, intensity (level of desperation), how to raise the stakes, and how to make character-driven choices that lead you to a more truthful performance. Explore techniques that push you to greater heights, build confidence, help you become a stronger scene partner, and a more well-rounded actor.

Explore a variety of comedic styles including improv, sketch, physical comedy, parody and stand-up. Sharpen your timing, heighten your creative instincts, develop your own comedic characters and ideas, while you also build trust in your scene partners, learn to listen and "pass the ball," commit to the given circumstances in a scene, and bring freshness and spontaneity to your acting performance.

Students will develop pieces (an up-tempo song, a ballad, and a monologue) to add to their audition repertoire, tackle choreography, and how to handle dance auditions, and learn how to present themselves with confidence. The class will culminate in a very informal showcase on the final date, November 20.
INTRO TO DIRECTING FOR GRADES 9 to 12

Learn how to examine plot and dialogue, break scenes down into beats for actors, how to visualize and create a concept for a production and how to balance your knowledge and focus between the onstage and offstage elements of any production. Students will work on and develop a scene, five minute one act or excerpt calling upon peer actors to perform.
