Today, we’re thankful for the families who built this tradition, the cowboys and cowgirls who keep it alive, and the loyal fans who fill the stands year after year. For nearly a century, the TCR has been shaped by hard work, faith, and the kind of place you’ll only find in Stamford.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of board member, cowboy, and dear friend Don Welch.

Don was more than a friend of the Texas Cowboy Reunion — since 1977, he was a cornerstone of it. For over 20 years, he proudly led the Grand Entry down that hallowed arena dirt, setting the tone for every performance. He was instrumental and vocal about projects that would propel the TCR to the historic event it is today.

Don was the kind of cowboy whose word was good, whose handshake meant something, and whose faith shined through in the way he lived. His leadership, his laughter, and his unwavering commitment to the TCR will never be forgotten.

Please join us in keeping Don’s family in your prayers. The TCR Arena won’t feel the same without him, but his legacy rides on in every grand entry, every project, and every cowboy who passes through Stamford.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2025 at Texas Cowboy Pavilion with Pastor Riley Carver officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home 807 Columbia Street, Stamford, Texas.

Memorials may be sent in Don’s memory to the Texas Cowboy Reunion, 620 N. Swenson, Stamford, TX 79553.

Friends, we’re passing along some tough news. Bobby Kerr, the legendary Mustang specialty act who brought grit, heart, and unforgettable entertainment to the Texas Cowboy Reunion (and countless other rodeos), passed away on September 5 at the age of 67. Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2021, Bobby waged a courageous battle—continually defying the odds, and lighting up arenas until the end.
Please join us in praying for his family and the rodeo community as they navigate through this loss.
