My take on Saturday’s event SOUTH EAST FLAT TRACK MOTORCYCLES
Written by Marty of Liberty Raceway Park
You guys don’t know me or how dedicated I am to karting. Yesterday, I was introduced to another type of racing. SOUTH EAST FLAT TRACK Association wanted to come to Liberty Raceway to hold an event. Because of such high temperatures, the event was delayed a couple hours. We all
came and sweated together in the high temperatures showing just what racing meant to us. I headed straight for the fan because my idea was not to over heat regardless how the fan made me look. As time passed the riders came trickling in sort of like a slow dripping water spigot. That was the only thing slow. You guys came in the track with not just one but some had two, three, or more bikes ready to show their expertise. I’ll have to admit, at first I was not to impressed but then in the 3rd or 4th heat race the action started picking up. I tuned in. I was getting in race mode. These riders were on top of things as they were siding around the turns . Now, listen to this! BEFORE EACH CLASS AND DESPITE THE FACT SOME HAD ENTERED MULTIPLE CLASSES, EACH OF THE RIDERS WERE WAITING IN THE GRID TO COME ONTO THE TRACK FOR THEIR NEXT EVENT. WITHOUT A WAIT! This is something us karters are a little slack on and CAN DO IF EFFORT IS MADE. Another thing the cyclist were in abundance of was appreciation. Numerous people came by to express their gratitude for letting them come and race. Of course, if I didn’t know something, I’d ask and no one was to busy to answer any question I had. The kindness these guys showed was absolutely remarkable. Before leaving last night the amount of people wanting to return to race at another time was nothing less than surprising. You absolutely loved the track with a capital L capital O - V - E and were not reluctant to let us know. Who knows what the future holds. I guess Liberty Raceway Park might be the track to become a flat track motorcycle track. That would not be the worst thing in the world.
Now for my most recent item to share. You guys remembering names is not my forte. The 2 that were at the track Sunday morning when Tommy arrived, (the racer and the rock star), learned 1 simple thing. They learned what a “drop cord” is. Now you two, before you go racing again , please go to the store and ask for “drop cord“. I promise they will tell you what isle they are on. :)
