I need to talk about something that genuinely scares me as a small business owner.

Stafford County is considering bringing back a BPOL tax — a tax based on a business's gross receipts, not its actual profit.

That distinction matters.

When you're a small business, the money that comes through the door is NOT the money you get to keep. From that revenue, I have to pay employees, supplies, rent, insurance, utilities, equipment, taxes, fees, and countless other expenses just to keep the doors open.

And after all of that, there may not be much profit left. In my case, that's 100% true.

But a gross receipts tax doesn't look at whether I actually made money. It looks at how much money passed through my business.

That's what frightens me.

Small businesses don't have unlimited margins. We can't simply absorb another expense and pretend it doesn't matter. We may have to raise prices, cut costs, reduce hours, delay hiring or investment — and for us, the math may eventually become impossible.

Stafford has proudly been a place without a BPOL tax. That has been part of what makes our community attractive to small businesses.

I don't want to see a tax that makes it harder for local businesses to survive.

I don't want to be forced to choose between passing another cost on to my customers and risking the future of my business.

Please help us speak up before this becomes reality.

If you support us, own a small business, work for one, shop at one, or simply believe our local businesses deserve a chance to thrive, please take a moment to sign the petition opposing the proposed Stafford County BPOL tax and share this post.

Our voices matter. Our businesses matter. Our community matters.

Please don't wait until your favorite local business is struggling to ask what happened.

Please consider signing the petition or emailing the Board of supervisors:

HOLA everyone!
I have decided to close my old website at Wix.com and I have a NEW website online now! This is not related to the Corgi Clay Art Center website. Just MY PERSONAL website. Go check it out at https://www.corgiclay.studio/

I have no work for sale on it just yet, but that will change! It's just a landing page right now so people know I am still around!
