We’re gearing up for our 8th season of mountain biking with the Maine Outdoor Education Program!

In just a few short weeks, our coaches will be back on the trails with students from across central and northern Maine, making the most of cool fall mornings and beautiful days while building skills, confidence, and a connection to the outdoors.

For some students, that means learning how to ride a bike for the very first time. For others, it’s learning how to transition from pedal brakes to disc brakes, understanding why wearing a helmet matters for the rest of your life, or building more confidence navigating the trails. Along the way, students are learning lessons in outdoor education rooted in Maine and our own backyard!

Our coaches have spent fourteen years meeting students where they are, encouraging them to try something new, and helping thousands of young people experience the outdoors.
Here’s to another upcoming season on the trails!

Early morning light on the East Branch of the Penobscot River. We're in awe daily at how incredible and vast this neck of the woods is. We're so grateful for all of you who choose to come here, recreate, share the experience with family and friends, and continue to visit season after season!

As we move through August, a light reminder that our Maine Outdoor Education Program Fall Biking Program will begin in early September. While we have a full fleet of bicycles dedicated to the program, there are days when we're working with 100+ students, and we may need to pull additional bikes from our rental fleet.

This may mean limited rental availability on select days throughout the fall as more students head outdoors and onto the trails.

Thank you all for your understanding!

It's a beautiful weekend to get out on the trails! Bike rentals are in full swing, and with nearly 16 miles of crusher dust trails to explore, the opportunities for adventure are endless.

Pictured here is the view of Katahdin from our Long Meadow Warming Hut. It's a unique perspective of Maine's highest peak, one that's often not seen since most views are taken head-on.

Grab your friends and family, and make your plans to explore Penobscot River Trails this summer.

An 88° day on the river isn’t complete without nearly 100 students experiencing an incredible kayaking trip with their classmates! Brewer Community School’s 7th Grade had an absolutely awesome day paddling the East Branch yesterday.

This season, 1,300 students from local schools will get to experience the Penobscot River firsthand over the course of 20 program days.

We truly love what we do!

A perfect day on the East Branch doesn’t even begin to describe the experience we shared with Indian Island School yesterday. Sunshine, warm spring air, familiar faces, high water on the river, wildlife around every bend, and plenty of laughter made for an unforgettable first day on the water.

We’re excited to officially kick off our 2026 Spring Kayaking Program season and can’t wait for all the adventures still to come.
