🎬 The film industry isn’t just growing in St. Louis — it’s growing across the river, too.

If you’re an actor, model, background performer, or crew member in the St. Louis region, this is the kind of story worth paying attention to.

This summer, Alton, Illinois hosted two productions: Herbert West: Reanimator, starring Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries) and Katie Cassidy (Arrow), and the culinary lifestyle series Food Is Love.

And Alton has something filmmakers are always looking for: options. A riverfront. Historic neighborhoods. Victorian homes. Industrial locations. Brick streets. Woodlands. Bluffs. Modern spaces. All within a relatively small area.

From an agent’s perspective, what’s exciting isn’t just one movie filming in one city. It’s the growing number of productions that are finding reasons to film in our region.

And with Missouri’s motion-media incentive reinstated, we’re seeing even more potential for productions to choose Missouri — while Illinois has its own strong production incentive helping bring projects across the river.

That can mean more opportunities for talent. 🎭

More productions can mean:
🎬 More casting calls
🎥 More background opportunities
🎭 More roles for local actors
📸 More opportunities for models and featured talent
🎬 More work for local crew
🤝 More industry connections
📍 More reasons for productions to stay in the St. Louis region

TalentPlus is always watching where the work is going — and right now, the St. Louis region is giving talent more places to look.

The industry doesn’t stop at the Mississippi River. And neither do the opportunities. ❤️🎬

This is exactly why we’ll continue encouraging our talent to stay active, keep their profiles updated, audition, submit and be ready when the next production comes to town.

The more successful productions we have here, the easier it becomes to attract the next one.

📍 Our region is becoming a place where movies get made — and that’s good news for local talent.

Read the full story below and see what’s happening just across the river. 👇

🎬 THIS is what a growing film industry looks like in St. Louis.

If you’ve noticed the production trucks lining Lindell Boulevard this week, there’s a reason — The Streak is filming right here in St. Louis, with Saint Louis University standing in for a California college campus.

And this is bigger than one movie.

For actors, background talent, crew, casting professionals, production companies and everyone working behind the scenes, productions like this mean more opportunities to gain experience, build relationships, earn a paycheck and add another credit to your résumé.

The Streak is looking for 1,800 background performers across six filming days in September, and productions like this are a great reminder that you don’t always have to head to LA, New York or Atlanta to be part of a real film set.

We’re also seeing productions take advantage of locations throughout the region — from St. Louis to Alton and beyond. Missouri has the locations, the talent, the crew and the communities that can help bring these stories to life.

As talent agents, we love seeing our region continue to attract projects that create opportunities for the people who live and work here. 🎥

And the more productions that successfully film here, the more momentum we can build for Missouri’s film industry.

St. Louis can absolutely be a film city. We just have to keep showing the industry what we can do. ❤️🎬

🚨 CASTING SEASON IS MOVING — IS YOUR ACTORS ACCESS PROFILE READY?

If a casting opportunity came across your agent’s desk TODAY… would your Actors Access profile show casting exactly who you are TODAY?

Because this is the part of the business that is easy to overlook:

🎭 You can be the right age range.
📸 You can have the right look.
📍 You can be local to the production.
🎬 You can have the experience they’re looking for.

…but if your profile is outdated, you may not be presenting yourself as competitively as you could.

With NBC’s Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. returning this fall—and the One Chicago franchise continuing to film in Illinois—the television market around us is active more than ever.

And for TalentPlus actors, your Actors Access profile matters. It’s not just a résumé sitting online. Actors Access notes that it is the profile Casting sees when reviewing submissions, including submissions made by TalentPlus.

Your 10-minute Actors Access check:

✔️ Is your primary headshot current?

✔️ Does your résumé include your newest credits?

✔️ Have you added recent training?

✔️ Are your special skills accurate?

✔️ Are your height, weight and other physical details current?

✔️ Is your union affiliation correct?

✔️ Does your profile still represent the roles you are realistically right for?

✔️ If you have a reel or performance media, is it current and representative of your work?

And here's the mindset we want our talent to have:

Don't update your profile because someone told you to. Update it because you never know which submission could be the one that matters.

Casting doesn't know what you've been doing if your profile doesn't reflect it.

So… 👀

When was the last time you REALLY looked at your Actors Access profile?

Throwback Thursday 🎬

Some St. Louis film history from the TalentPlus archives! 👀

Did you know TalentPlus actors worked on John Carpenter’s Escape from New York when the iconic film shot here in St. Louis?

That’s right—long before the days of self-tapes, casting platforms and digital submissions, TalentPlus was helping connect St. Louis actors with major motion pictures filming right here in our own backyard.

Escape from New York transformed familiar St. Louis locations into a dystopian Manhattan, and we were there helping provide talent for the production. 🎥

Some of the TalentPlus actors who are featured in this film are John Contini, Alan Knoll and Joe Rodriguez!

It’s one of the many reasons we love what we do: St. Louis has a much deeper film history than people realize—and TalentPlus has been part of that history for decades.

Swipe through these throwback photos from the set! ➡️

Were you in St. Louis when Escape from New York was filming? Do you recognize any of these locations—or did you know local talent worked on the movie?

🎬 Myth vs. Fact
MYTH: Casting directors only remember actors who book
FACT: A strong audition can make an impression even when you're not selected.

You may not be selected for the project you auditioned for, but that doesn't mean your audition was a dead end.

Casting directors are constantly meeting new talent and looking for the right people for future projects. You might not be the right fit for this role, but your audition could leave a positive impression and put you on their radar for a future commercial, film, television project or another role.

Sometimes casting comes down to things completely outside your control — the right look, chemistry with another actor, character fit, availability, or simply what the client has in mind.

So don't measure a successful audition only by whether you book the job.

Show up. Give a strong audition. Be professional. Be memorable. 🎬

You never know when that casting director may be looking for someone exactly like you on the next project.
