THE NONPROPHET THEATER COMPANY - SOUTH holds auditions for Debbie Does Dallas ā The Musical by Erica Schmidt, Andrew Sherman & Susan L. Schwartz on Sunday, July 27th, 2014 from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. at The New Orleans Healing Center, 2372 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA - Room 252
The most important theatrical event of the 21st century, Debbie Does Dallas is a modern day morality tale (well, as modern as the classic 1970ās adult film on which it is based). Itās a comic musical of tragic proportions, told in the language of the rodeo-p**n-football circus. Debbie Benton, All-American small-town sweetheart and captain of the cheerleaders, receives a letter to report to the most important event in her life: auditions for the Dallas Cowboy cheerleading squad! But, being as poor as she is pretty, she and her high school teammates form Teen Services, a company dedicated to getting menial jobs to raise money to help Debbie reach her lofty goal. When they realize that minimum-wage isnāt going to cut it, they hatch a plan to try their hands at ālittle favorsā, performed with enthusiasm by āgood girlsā. Accompanied by a hard-rockinā score featuring such toetappers as āSmall-Town Girlā, āI Wanna Do Debbieā, āThe D***o Ragā, and āDallas⦠Iām Comingā, the girls strive to help Debbie get āten dollars closer to Dallasā through s*x, sweat and tears. But, will Debbie lose her soul along the way?
Casting the following roles (5w, 3m ā helps if you can play a high-schooler, but remember this is a p**n parody, so a āhigh-schoolerā in an adult film can be past 30!!!):
THE GIRLS:
DEBBIE BENTON ā Captain of the cheerleaders. Small-town girl with big city dreams. Blonde bombshell, squeaky-clean, but underneath a closet existentialist. Friendly, nonjudgmental, a little dim, but driven. Has most of the shows solos.
LISA ā Cheerleader. The bad girl we love to hate. Manipulative and sneaky, but a āhooker with a heart of goldā. Sets goals and achieves them ā just doesnāt aim very high. Has a solo.
ROBERTA ā Cheerleader. The spacey one. Lives in her own bubble and is all about the fun. Best friends with Lisa, but also very loyal to Debbie. Has a lot of s*x, and enjoys it. A LOT. Should dance and cheer well. No Solo.
DONNA ā Cheerleader. The semi-gothy, dark angel of the team, but with a very romantic streak. Experiments with s*x, but afraid of what her friends and parents would think. Favorite Poet: Sylvia Plath, but Favorite Movie:Titanic. Should dance and cheer well. No solo.
TAMMY ā Cheerleader. The smart one. Senatorial prospects. Role models now would probably be Hilary Clinton, Condoleeza Rice, Madonna and Lady Gaga. Her wisecracks usually go over the heads of the other girls. She does her part, but she is the only one to remain a virgin. Should dance and cheer well. No solo.
THE BOYS:
ACTOR ONE (plays 3 roles):
RICK - The quarterback, captain of the football team, and Debbieās boyfriend. Has a solo.
HAMILTON ā Rich, young tennis pro.
BIGTIME ā Owner of the Dallas Cowboys, appears in a fantasy.
ACTOR TWO (plays 3 roles):
MR. GREENFELT ā Owns the local sports good shop, A gentleman, but REALLY wants in Debbieās pants.
MR. BIDDLE ā High-school librarian; repressed, with darker fantasies about Donna
KEVIN ā Football player. RICKāS friend. Typical jock.
ACTOR THREE (plays SIX roles):
MR. HARDWICK ā Owns the candle shop. A sw***er, but kinda Mr. Rogers-ish. Has a solo.
SR. BRADLEY - High school Spanish teacher, but the kind who hires young girls to wash his car in the rain while his wifeās gone. Chooses to speak only Spanish.
ASHLEY ā Friends with tennis pro, HAMITON, but challenged when it comes to girls.
NICK ā College boy who works at the record store. Vintage Vinyl type of āknow-it-all-nessā.
JOHNNY ā Football player. Tight End. Maybe a LITTLE closeted.
TIM ā Football player. Shy, but is DONNAāS boyfriend.
NOTE: THE ROLE OF ACTOR 3 IS ALREADY CAST.
ATTENTION: It MUST be understood that all actors for DEBBIE DOES DALLAS must be very, VERY comfortable with various states of undress (but NO nudity), close proximity to actors of the same and opposite s*xes, and choreographed simulated s*xual situations (with the stress much, much more on the dance and comedy than the s*x).
