We won't shy away from our region's issues, but you will find a celebratory, hopeful tone of what we can be. We’re more “firsts” than we or most of the world recognize. We’re our inferiority complex, our civic pride. We’re a down to earth people who generally believe in free attractions and taking care of each other, but who like to sweep our problems under the rug rather than deal with them. We g

enerally have a love-hate relationship with our city. We’re Imo’s and provel and t-ravs and gooey butter cake. We’re Lindberg and the 1904 World’s Fair and Annie Malone and Pruit Igoe. We still clap when David Freese comes to the plate, even though he hasn’t been a Cardinal since 2013, and we revel in the now Los Angeles Rams woes. We’re Ferguson and Dred Scott, “Widow” Chouteau and Martha Gelhorn. We’re fish fries, single-gender catholic schools and pulitzer-prize winning authors. We’re failing schools and the founder of Kindergarten, East St. We’re the city and the county, The Hill and Little Bosnia. Challenged and challenging. Complex. We’re anything but flyover country. Our city is home to so many phenomenal artists - today we want to highlight Bill Lepak (.lepak ). His brightly colored bowls, vases, and more are made though a process called green turning where the wood is turned while it is still fresh and wet (green).

He turns the pieces to their final size and shape and set them to dry. Once dry they take on their brightly colored hews, and possibly his distinctive leather embellishment and finished with a mix of mineral oil and beeswax. All of his wood is sourced locally in the Midwest.

His upcoming shows locally include the Unique Boutique at John Burroughs Saturday, November 22 & Sunday, November 23!
