On the last episode of Club Shay Shay, cultural critic Shannon Sharpe interviewed Love And Hip Hop star Mendeecees Harris, who spoke very openly about his days as a drug trafficker.

Harris told a shocking story about where he once gave his drug connect his mother, Judy Harris& #8217; location in order to secure a large amount of co***ne on consignment.

“But, I got some crazy stories about…you know. I remember one time I was dealing with a connect, and this gonna sound horrible, but I put my mom up for collateral,” adding, “I was getting a bunch of keys, and they was like, ‘Well, you gotta show me where your mom live at, ’cause if you run off on this, we can’t afford for you to run off.’ And I was like, I didn’t have no intentions of running off, so I was like, ‘All right I’ll show you.’ And I took ’em. Last week, Detroit rapper Trick Trick put the streets on lookout when an 80-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by an intruder.

Detroit police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting the woman and another woman as well.. The alleged perpetrator, Kenneth Davis Jr. was captured at Rouge Park. Davis Jr. was arrested Tuesday after days of police searching, hours of surveillance video from businesses and a slew of tips from the public.

Davis is accused of breaking into a home on Memorial Street near I-96 and sexually assaulting an 80-year-old woman on March 26.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting a 64-year-old woman near Grand River and Ferguson on Monday.

Davis was in a car with a woman and child when he was arrested in Rouge Park, according to WXYZ-TV in Detroit.

“We will pursue him relentlessly and hour by hour until we get him off the street,” Detroit Police Chief James White said at a press conference this week. “…We are committed to getting this violent suspect off our streets.”

Trick Trick posted the perps mugshot once it was released. & #8216;Caught!& #8217;. the Detroit gatekeeper wrote.

Shaq goes Superman again. Last week, Michigan teen and football player Eric Kilburn Jr. gained notoriety after his mother made public through a GoFundMe page their struggles to find shoes for his size 22+ feet and made a plea for assistance in finding both immediate and long-term solutions to help make sports, and everyday life for that matter, more accessible to her son.

Since then, the family has received a flood of support, from kindhearted individuals giving to their GoFundMe page to sneaker companies promising to make special shoe lasts in Eric& #8217;s size so they can one day make custom products for him. Shaquille O& #8217;Neal, a longtime partner and partial owner of Reebok who also happens to have a size 22 foot, was able to provide some more immediate solutions by sending Eric a variety of Shaq& #8217;s custom shoes that the brand makes on a shoe last created, especially for Shaq.

Reebok was able to assist Eric to receive a surprise phone call from his idol, Shaq, after getting to know the family and discovering the extent of Eric& #8217;s long-standing admiration for him. Shaq was able to speak with Eric directly and provide his own words of support and encouragement. Since then, the two have maintained contact, and Reebok and Shaq are eager to assist Eric in his future endeavors.

According to several confirmed reports, Texas rapper Maxo Cream has turned himself into authorities over a 2016 RICO case, citing that he wouldn& #8217;t & #8220;break& #8221;.

Kream, whose real name is Emekwanem Ogugua Biosah Jr., posted a caption alongside a mugshot of himself saying, & #8220;Been dealing with this Rico s**t since 2016. I beat all the felony Charges but gotta handle sum light s**t. I’ll never bend break or fold S/o all my fans ima brb.”

Back in 2016, Maxo Kream and members of the Kream Klicc gang were arrested on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.

On this day in 1973, the seemingly ageless producer, singer, rapper, author, designer, creative director, and label head Pharrell Williams was born 48 years ago. His music has touched the hearts and minds of literally billions of people, his humanitarian efforts have helped toward preserving the planet for the next generation to enjoy, and his actions to promote happiness and equality have helped move society in a positive direction.

Pharrell Lanscilo Williams was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia to Pharaoh and Carolyn Williams. He is the eldest of three sons. His love for music and art started at a young age. He met the other half of the legendary production duo The Neptunes, Chad Hugo, at band camp in the seventh grade. Pharrell at the time played the piano and the drums and Hugo played the tenor saxophone. In the early 90s, Pharrell and Hugo formed the group The Neptunes and signed with Teddy Riley of Interscope Records upon graduating high school.

Success began to come in 1993 when Pharrell met fellow Virginia rappers Clipse. The rap duo signed to Artista Records under Pharrell& #8217;s Star Trak Entertainment. In 1994 Pharrell and Chad Hugo officially established themselves at The Neptunes and produced part of Blackstreet& #8217;s self-titled album. By the 2000s the Neptunes had a name for themselves and in 2001 got their first international #1 hit with Britney Spears& #8217; & #8220;I& #8217;m a Slave 4 U.& #8221;

That same year Pharrell, Hugo, and Shae Haley released their first album as the group N*E*R*D titled In Search of& #8230; in Europe, where the first Kelis album, produced by The Neptunes, had its best reception. After realizing that the album sounded much like their other work, the group decided to reproduce the album with Spymob. In 2002 the re-release of the album came with amazing reception and Pharrell was named Producer of the Year by Billboard and The Source.

In 2003 The Neptunes released their only album The Neptunes Present& #8230;Clones which was a compilation of songs and remixes by Pharrell and Hugo. The album featured Busta Rhymes, Clipse, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, ODB, Kelis, and Nas and debuted #1 on the Billboard 200. It also claimed the #1 spot on the UK R&B Albums chart and the Dutch MegaChart.

The next year N*E*R*D released their second album Fly or Die which was more popular than the first. It had a very positive international reception. That same year Pharrell received two Grammy awards, one for Producer of the Year and a second for Best Pop Vocal Album for his work on Justin Timberlake& #8217;s Justified album. He also put out the hit single & #8220;Drop It Like It& #8217;s Hot& #8221; that year with Snoop Dogg, which was Pharrell& #8217;s first #1 single in the US.

In 2006, Pharrell released his first solo album. In My Mind was released on July 25 and debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart where it peaked. The album is full of hits with artists like Kanye West, Gwen Stefani, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, and more.

Over the next few years, Pharrell continued to produce hit songs as well as build his fashion empire with his brands Billionaire Boys Club and ICECREAM. His work with a designer and BAPE founder Nigo helped him to rise to prominence in the early 2000s as a streetwear designer. His popularity grew as a designer was almost simultaneous with his growth as an artist.

During the 2010& #8217;s Pharrell has continued to have a creative influence. His 2013 single & #8220;Happy& #8221; from his second album Girl has become the international anthem for happiness around the world and can be considered his most popular record. This decade he has also begun his i am Other campaign which is a multimedia creative collective and record label that serves as the overarching brand over his many endeavors including: Billionaire Boys Club, ICECREAM, Bionic Yarn and the Youtube channel that launched as i Am Other& #8217;s founding platform. Most recently, Pharrell can be seen as a host of the popular TV show, The Voice. He has also just been named the creative director of the well established denim brand G-Star Raw.

Pharrell& #8217;s has become synonymous with Hip Hop and his brand is one that has inspired many in the generations under and above him. On behalf of everyone here at The Source we& #8217;d like to wish Pharrell Williams a happy born day, may he see many more years of success.

The city of Chicago has elected its new mayor, Brandon Johnson. When the race was called, Johnson had 51% of the votes cast, 286,647. His opponent, Paul Vallas, had 49% at 270,775.

Johnson, a 47-year-old Cook County commissioner and former public school teacher, orchestrated a comeback victory, an impressive feat for a candidate that was considered unknown in mid-2023. He now inherits a divided city from current mayor Lori Lightfoot who came in third place in the initial election but could not make the runoff.

& #8220;The truth is the people have always worked for Chicago,& #8221; Johnson said in his victory speech. & #8220;Whether you wake up early to open the doors of your businesses or wear a badge to protect our streets or nurse patients in need or provide childcare services, you have always worked for this city and now Chicago will begin to work for its people. All the people.& #8221;

Vallas called for the city to unite behind Johnson. & #8220;It& #8217;s time for all Chicagoans to put aside their differences and to walk and to work together supporting the daunting work ahead for our next mayor.& #8221;

Johnson was backed by the Chicago Teachers Union, opposed to Vallas, who had support from the Fraternal Order of Police. Vallas was criticized for his police-heavy platforms and often compared to being more of a Republican candidate opposed to the Democrat party he placed on the ballot.

With the runoff complete, Johnson, now mayor-elect, will prep for taking office. His swearing-in is scheduled for May 15.

Nigerian artist Davido hit New York to celebrate the success of his album, Timeless.  The album was released on March 31st and broke a few records.  The “If” singer set a new record on Apple Music.

Timeless now has the most first-day streams for an African Album on the platform. Davido’s fourth studio album also had the biggest first-week debut on Spotify Nigeria. Ahead of his first live performance of Timeless in New York, the “Fall” artist held a Meet & Greet with fans.

Fans lined up in front of the Puma store in New York City to get a chance to meet and take a photo with Davido.  Photos and videos of the Afrobeats star are on social media. He is smiling, laughing, and dancing.  Fans took to the comments to express their happiness in seeing their favorite artist out enjoying himself.

Timeless is a 17-track album that features international artists such as Skepta, Askae, Logos Olori, and Fave. It is available on all platforms.

Popular comedian-actor Hannibal Buress is adding another skill to his resume. After comedian and actor, Buress can also add rapper. Recently, he performed in Austin, Texas, at the SXSW festival. The TAG actor goes by Eshu Tune when he is rapping. During his set, he performed songs from his self-titled album, such as “Knee Brace”, & #8220;Donde Esta”, and “Veneers”. Buress has a remix to “Veneers” that features rappers Paul Wall and Danny Brown.

Before he performed, Buress let fans know that being on stage is new to him-but not in the way you may think.

“This is a new feeling for me. Not the rapping thing-it’s just usually when I play show is Austin, I get paid a lot of money.”

The Spiderman: No Way Home actor kicked off his set with a live band and entertained the audience with not only his songs but his commentary as well. Buress told jokes throughout his set, and his songs were comical as well. Since the Chicago native is known for being a comedian, the audience assumed he would perform a stand-up routine. This was like when Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, performed at the SXSW festival in 2011. Fans were ready for jokes but instead witnessed Gambino rapping.

Buress and Gambino are similar as music and comedy have gone hand in hand for them.  The Get Out actor has participated in battle rap, hosted open mic nights, and has been on rappers’ albums performing skits.  When the coronavirus pandemic called for a lockdown, Buress decided to step in the studio and give rapping an actual chance.  The 40-year-old specializes in making funny, witty music, which is right up his alley.  His debut album, Eshu Tune, was released in April of 2022.

It’s Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary, which means we are continuously honoring all the greats. Insert Flavor Flav, who we can all agree boasts legendary status in the rap game. Seen as a musical prodigy, the New York native exploded onto the scene in the 80s, most notably as the co-founder of Public Enemy. In 2013, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Today, Flavor Flav blessed the students at Harvard University, giving them games and teaching them about the roots of Hip-Hop culture. TMZ obtained a video of Flavor Flav sitting down in front of a class at the Ivy League school, stating, “I’ma tell ya something man, I sound like I graduated from Harvard and I didn’t even go to school here. Wowwww.”

At this point, a student in the crowd yelled out his ad-libs: “Yeahhhh boye!!”

Flavor Flav expressed how much fun he had on campus, even doing a table read of Emily Dickinson& #8217;s 1896 poem titled “A Clock Stopped,” and how it influenced his own lyrics throughout his long-standing career. 

Soon after, Flavor Flav blessed the school by donating one of his own personal clocks to the Hip Hop Archive Research Institute. And if you know one thing about Flavor Flav, it’s the fact that he always has a clock around his neck. The video sees two professors, Henry Louis Gates, and Tommie Shelby, receiving the rare prize.

However, the festivities don’t stop there. Flavor Flav is reportedly supposed to return to Harvard tomorrow to lead more activities, including a writer’s workshop, a sit-down interview with PBS, and even volunteering to feed the homeless inside Harvard Square Homeless Shelter alongside a few lucky student groups.

Some notable names that were present include Lupe Fiasco (who previously taught at Harvard), rapper Dee-1, DJ Stretch Armstrong, and Khaliah Ali (daughter of Muhammad Ali and a dear friend of Flav’s).

Bob Lee, the creator of Cash App, was found fatally stabbed early Tuesday (Apr.4) near downtown San Francisco.

NBC reports San Francisco Police Department responded to a stabbing victim around 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday and found Lee suffering from the wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he would die.

At the time of his death, Lee operated as the Chief Product Office of MobileCoin.

“Bob was a force of nature. Helped to birth Android and CashApp into our world,& #8221; Joshua Goldbard, the CEO of MobileCoin told ABC7 News. & #8220;Moby was his dream: a privacy protecting wallet for the 21st Century. I will miss him every day.”

There have been no arrests made in Lee& #8217;s death.

Did you know that Meek Mill and former President Donald Trump have the same lawyer? Trump was arrested and arraigned in Manhattan yesterday (April 4.). On hand with him was his band of lawyers, including Joe Tacopina, who previously represented the & #8220;Dreams & Nightmares& #8221; rapper.

Seeing the courtroom picture of Trump online, Meek grabbed it and brought it to his Instagram story to cosign how skilled Taocpina is as a lawyer and throwing some attributes to Trump& #8217;s credit.

“Trump graduated from the streets…sharing criminal lawyers as ys [with us]…Joe Tactical.”

Joe Tacopina represented Meek Mill in 2017 after he was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating the terms of his probation. Meek would only serve five months. You can learn more about that here.
