The St. Louis Black Rep is celebrating 50 years with The Color Purple, connecting two St. Louis actors through one iconic role. 🎭 Kelvin Roston Jr. steps into Mister as Broadway veteran Kingsley Leggs reflects on the role he originated.

Alice Walker made history being the first black woman to win the fiction Pulitzer Prize for The Color Purple novel in 1983.

The story went on to make its mark on the big screen, in Steven Spielberg's 1985 film adaptation that received 11 Academy Award nominations.

The Color Purple (The Musical) also made its way to Broadway in 2005, featuring Kingsley Leggs, a company member of The Black Rep!

The musical was revived in 2015, going on to win two Tony Awards.
