An exciting planetary parade--in solar system order, no less!

A must-see! Such a planetary alignment will not happen again until 2040.

The more the merrier!

Could there be another planet lurking in the dark, frigid outskirts of the solar system?

Went this weekend with my wife, Carole, to inspect the newly installed version of the Delmar Loop Planet Walk, conceived and designed by Yours Truly. Originally installed in Nov. 2009, the stations were showing their age; but the new signage looks bright and sharp! On hand at the original unveiling and dedication were Joe Edwards, then-alderwoman Lyda Krewson, then-U. City mayor Joe Adams, and me. The Earth has orbited our sun 13 times since that exciting day, and I hope the Planet Walk will be around for many more years to come. Check it out when you're in the Loop!

Since its launch with a “Big Bang” on Nov. 8, 2009, the Delmar Loop Planet Walk, and the Earth it sits on, has gone around the sun 10 times – a 6 billion mile journey. Anyone who might happen to be situated 10 light years away from us would just now be witnessing that event.

Since that date, the Planet Walk has been visited by countless individuals and has been the destination for numerous school field trips. It’s also been the inspiration for at least two other such installations that I’ve had the honor to be involved with as a consultant: one in Lake Chelan, in Washington State, and another being planned for Bray, Ireland.

The accompanying photos include a look at the construction and installation of the planet stations and the dignitaries who helped with the big reveal: Joe Edwards, Loop businessman; Lyda Krewson (then alderwoman and current mayor of St. Louis); Joe Adams, then mayor of University City, and myself. More photos and info can be found at loopplanetwalk.com.

If you haven’t yet experienced it, I would like to invite you to get out and “Walk the Walk!”

I feel like a new daddy as I announce the launch of a brand new planet walk, inspired by our very own Delmar Loop Planet Walk. This one is in Chelan, Washington. The Chelan Rotary approached me a couple years ago to assist as a consultant, and I was honored to help out. Give it a look!

Don Lincoln writes that the image of a black hole looks like a ring of light with a shadow in the middle because of fast-moving heated gas that glows and emits electromagnetic radiation.

Yes, those stars can get pretty BIG out there!
