Wynton Marsalis’ new symphony, “Liberty,” is receiving major attention following its world premiere.

The New York Times recently featured the new work, which was co-commissioned by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and a group of leading orchestras and organizations.

The Times called “Liberty” “one hell of a ride” and wrote that “this year hasn’t yet produced any new art about the United States that hits harder.”

We’ll bring “Liberty” to Powell Hall in March, alongside music by Aaron Copland and John Adams.

Celebrating the last St. Louis Cardinals game of the season with photos from one of the best ball games in history (in our opinion) ⚾

On June 28, 1976, the SLSO took on the New York Philharmonic in a friendly softball game at the old Busch Stadium, bringing two of the country’s oldest orchestras together for a slightly different kind of performance.

Even THE Cardinals legend and Hall of Famer Stan Musial came out to cheer us on. (Check out that t-shirt!)

We won’t tell you who won, but it might have been us. 10–4. 😌
