Pack Dance is seeking 5 performing artists to round out our 2026 - 2027 season. Our mission is to engage the St. Louis community to experience the healing art of movement as participants, patrons or professionals. We weave history and culture into all our artistic endeavors and increase access to dance for all.
Pack Dance is a professional Contemporary dance company that pays between $5 - $25/rehearsal based on contract and hires choreographers internally paying between $300 - $1,000 per piece based on funding. Each concert season premieres all original work, we are not a repertory company. Unpaid apprentice positions may also be offered. Rehearsals take place week day evenings and weekends but day time rehearsals are possible, based on the needs and availability of our artistic team.
Our rehearsal structure is designed to invite professionals with other full time careers and/or families, redefining who can contribute to dance and performance.
In the current funding landscape, our resources are deeply limited so our artistic team will be smaller compared to previous seasons. We still seek variety in background and styles that our dancers can bring to the organization as we lean into artistic collaboration and cross-pollination of genres.
This season we are focused on the history and ongoing health impacts of Coldwater Creek. Many families in north St. Louis County have been, and continue to be, impacted by radioactive waste contamination. Dancers joining this summer will work alongside those families to tell the story of St. Louis' hidden nuclear legacy.
Artists will also have access to paid teaching positions within the organization for ages 0 - adult based on interest and expertise. Teaching positions pay $10 - $50/class based on clients in attendance.
Additional paid performance and teaching gigs are offered throughout the season and contracts will run June 2026 - May 2027 with ample time for travel and rest periods built in to the season; July and December.
Artists are 1099 contractors and largely create their own schedules and bring their own expertise to the organization. Must be available Thursday evenings and willing to tour summer 2027.
