Under a canopy of soft lights, on a maple floor that seems to float, St. Louis has been dancing in the same room since 1927. 🎶 The Casa Loma Ballroom is the last of the great ballrooms, and it is still swinging.

It opened as the Cinderella dance hall in Gravois Park and took the name Casa Loma in 1935. The secret has always been under your feet, a huge floating dance floor of honey colored maple laid over rubber, built to be gentle on the knees of dancers who planned to stay all night. 💃 And what nights they were. Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller and Guy Lombardo all played that stage in the golden age of the big bands.

Generations of St. Louisans learned to dance there, met their sweethearts there, and celebrated there, and against all odds the doors are still open. In a city that has lost so many of its palaces, Casa Loma keeps the music going.

Did you ever dance the night away at Casa Loma? Tell me who you were with.
