We thought getting into the 2023 Quilt Festival at Houston was amazing. Then this happened: our group quilt "Tut" won the Viewer's Choice award! Bits Art member Sally Pelikan masterminded the making of the group quilt with 22 members, who completed individual sections. Sally assembled the pieces and added the quilting. Known affectionately as Tut by our members, Wonderful Things: 100 Years of King Tutankhamun, is currently part of a traveling show winners exhibit.

Sally and some members who attended Quilt Festival were interviewed by Superior Threads about the fascinating stitching of Egyptian symbology with their threads.

What's the best email in your Inbox if you're a quilter?
THIS ONE.

Congrations! Your quilt, Wonderful Things - 100 Years of King Tutankhamun, was selected for the inclusion in the Pictorial Large Category for the International Quilt Festival Judged Show in Houston, November 2 - 5, 2023.

The group quilt challenge was led by Sally Pelikan, who conceived the idea. Quilt artists from Bits Art Quilters created each block within guidelines. Sally pieced and finished quilt top with free motion quilting using Egyptian symbology.a

Today's featured artist is Cindy Bell Neville. Her quilt is part of the log cabin challenge which explores the techniques introduced by Katie Pasquini Masopust in her book "Artful Log Cabins". Her inspiration photo is snow capped mountains and titled Icy Dreams.

In her words:
My inspiration photo reminds me of ice capped mountains. I chose my color palette to reflect this and created a grid to mimic the triangular shapes of mountains. I paid close attention to value to give the feeling of dimension.
