In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Japan America Society of St. Louis, Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. collaborated with Masumi Sake in Suwa, Japan (St. Louis’ sister city) to brew Konomi 好み, a Japanese Ale brewed with sake yeast. The Masumi Sake Brewery, operated by the Miyasaka family since 1662, discovered and isolated “Brewing Association Yeast Number Seven” the now widest used sake strain in the world, and sent Urban Chestnut their home yeast with which to brew the beer. Konomi 好み.

Hiroko Yoshii was born and raised in Japan. She has been involved in the education field for many years. She is the Assistant Professor at University of Missouri in St. Louis in Japanese.
She is active in community outreach with her Shodo (Japanese brush calligraphy) skills.
At the Red Lantern Night Market, she will offer:
1) Hands-on Calligraphy work (words of your choice in Japanese) on the 13 x 9.5 paper

2) “Ema (絵馬) ”, a small wooden board where you can write your prayers or wishes in Japanese.
Unfortunately our other calligrapher Kaori Ishijima is out sick but we have the beautiful & talented Hiroko San taking over.
