Piecework Peaceplay
Dec 8-9

Cookiecutter templates and traditional quilt blocks can take a break this weekend. Beginner and advanced stitchers alike are invited to exchange skills and perspectives on intuitive quiltmaking. We will court chance, beauty, and metaphor by way of color, materiality, and construction.

Participants will design and sew their own quilted piece. It doesn’t have to be big! A patch for your jeans, a seat cushion, potholder, pillowcase, scroll for your home altar….the possibilities are endless.

We Are Friends! (FOR REAL)

Friends and are the creators of , now on view at .

We met in Houston, where we created the friends and the We Are Friends series.

When Claire moved to Spruce Pine, NC in 2021, some of the friends went with her and some stayed.

This past weekend, we had so much fun installing this show. It was a reunion of friends, both plush and human.

We spent several days at Arrowmont's Wolpert Gallery installing the show with new friend Heather Wetzel and making some custom cushion friends for comfy viewing.

Happily, our weekend at Arrowmont coincided with the school’s “Legacy Weekend,” when arts educators and administrators visit the campus for a weekend of craft workshops.

Both Eepi and Claire wear arts administrator hats, so we felt right at home checking out everyone’s impressive work and sitting down for meals in the dining hall with friends new and old.

So excited to welcome to the treats fam! She is getting settled into one of our smallest spaces and already making a big impact with her poetic works!

Carter Norris is an alternative process photographer, currently based in Spruce Pine, NC. Her work uses nostalgic and narrative imagery to explore personal and familial memory through an art historical viewpoint. Norris utilizes multiple shooting methods including lomography, pinhole, and 35 mm photography, as well as various darkroom and early photographic chemical processes for capturing reminiscences. Her style and subject matter are influenced by photographic pioneers like Julia Margaret Cameron and Anna Atkins. Norris’s use of textiles references her own roots in Appalachian culture. She seeks to express her own emotions and experiences while utilizing humor, folk culture, and utilitarian methods. She is currently experimenting with 8mm film as a means of storytelling.

We scroll Instagram or Facebook, looking at other people’s vacations, relationships, and professional accomplishments. We scan Zillow, imagining what we would put in that extra closet space. We walk past storefronts longing for tantalizing baubles displayed in the windows. Whatever the temptation, we find ourselves wanting more than we have. But with each goal achieved and each milestone met, our desires still don’t seem to abate.

“Let Them Eat Cake” gives you access to only the simple utilitarian chair outside. But you can take a picture and imagine yourself amidst gaudy excess just out of reach behind the glass, like so much else in our lives.

The chair's backrest is hand-carved and upholstered by furniture maker Annie Evelyn. The silk fabric is diamond-tufted with crystal buttons and lit by LEDS and the wood frame is gilded with gold leaf.
