We are offering "Simplifying the Landscape," a painting class by Lynn Margileth, professional artist, for beginning and experienced painters!

Explore a process of drawing and painting in oil or acrylic that informs how you see value, form, and color. We will use color photographs that you have taken, or if weather permits, use the beautiful gardens and grounds at historic Colerain Forges Mansion to paint on site. The mansion is a former ironmaster's home on the National Register of Historic Places. Skills will be offered in the basics of drawing: how to see and represent shapes in dark and light values to create a strong composition. Then, using paint, learn how to transfer the composition with a first layer of underpainting onto the canvas, mix and blend colors, use brush techniques, apply and blend paint to provide a rich and varied surface of color and texture onto the canvas, and finally, understand when your painting is finished. We will make small quick studies in paint and one larger sized canvas to take home.

The class will be offered in two sessions, Friday evening, July 17, from 6 - 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Bring your own supplies or Lynn will provide them for $35 in addition to the class fee.

Lynn will offer demonstrations in drawing and painting. She will work with each person individually on their drawings and paintings. She is an experienced teacher who guides participants to feel at ease in learning new skills! Class limited to 10.

The fee is $100 if you bring your own supplies (listed above) and $135, if Lynn provides the supplies. The supply list will be provided upon registration. Last day to register: Saturday, July 11.
