🌊🐠 We’re Excited to Share Our Progress With You 🐠🌊

If you’ve ever cared for fish, you know how much love goes into it. You watch them, feed them, and make their tank a little world of its own. And when something goes wrong — when a fish gets sick or passes away and you don’t know why — it can be heartbreaking.

That’s why our team of 7 students at Brigham Young University is working on a small, handheld device that makes water testing simple and clear. We want to give you peace of mind, so you can spend less time worrying and more time enjoying your tanks.

Garrett has been working hard designing the housing for our device — it’s smaller than your hand, easy to hold, and built with aquarists like you in mind.

We’re sharing this because we’re excited, but also because we know how much this community cares. Your dedication inspires us. And our goal is simple: to help you keep your fish alive and thriving.

🐠💧 Meet Our Team 💧🐠

We’re 7 students at BYU who care a lot about fish and the people who keep them. Losing a fish without knowing why is tough, and we want to help make that less common.

Here’s who we are:
👷‍♂️ Garret & Kade – our engineers, building the device piece by piece.
💻 Micha & Rex – Information Systems majors, making sure the tech actually works.
📈 Ethan & Ben – Entrepreneurial Management majors, keeping us moving forward.
🚚 EJ – Supply Chain major, figuring out how to get this into your hands.

🐟💔 Your fish are dying… and you don’t know why.
It’s one of the most frustrating parts of fishkeeping — you feed, clean, and care for your tank, but suddenly… a fish is gone.

Here’s the truth:
🔹 Most fish deaths aren’t random. They’re often caused by water parameter changes that we don’t notice until it’s too late.
🔹 Ammonia, nitrite, pH swings, temperature fluctuations — all can silently stress fish.
🔹 The problem? Testing is slow, messy, and easy to skip, so small problems become big ones before we catch them.

That’s why we’re building AquaSpec: a smarter, simpler way to monitor your aquarium’s health.

We're a group of college students at BYU, working through the Crocker Innovation Fellowship, a startup incubator where we take real problems and build real solutions. After talking with dozens of aquarists, we noticed the same issues coming up again and again:
