It was an honor to photograph Monte the Angus Steer at the Garrison at Finley Farms! Like everything under Johnny Morris' umbrella, this speakeasy is impeccably designed. From the original Howard Garrison art and authentic distressed furniture to this incredible tunnel that lights the way there, every detail is spot on.
With some luck Monte will be going on the road in the spring! I'll keep you posted.

Had an exciting wrap-up on our first municipal commission yesterday, a red-curtain reveal for the Rountree neighborhood complete with wonderful neighbors, apple c***r, and the Ozarks First news crew... and, of course, a 200lb stainless steel barred owl!
This has been my favorite job to date, and the first I have taken where the uncertainty far outweighed the certainty. We had to build the airplane while free-falling! But we were able to deliver a stunning piece for the grand opening of Rountree's Fairway Glen Park!
The branch and armature of this piece are made from rolled steel we reclaimed from the scrap yard; the toes & talons are made from propane pipe and garage door springs; and the eyes are-- what else? salad spoons. The feathers are 304 stainless, and I couldn't be happier with how the material lends itself to the binary coat of the barred owl.
I am eager for our next job and dream of pushing further into the monumental scale. (God willing)
If you want to see this piece you can drop by 606 South Fairway Ave. in Springfield. Bring a picnic blanket and an hour to spend kicking back.
Thanks to Joe & Terry Malesky for their help and mentorship.
Thanks to Jason Jarrell for help on installation.
Thanks to the Rountree Neighborhood association for creating a beautiful space for the community and for this piece.

I just completed my first public installation for the town of North Platte, Nebraska. If you ever find yourself out in that long neck of the woods, be sure to stop by their Canteen District to catch my sculpture and get a drink at APEShip brewing. Wonderful people there!
I love how this piece came together. I wanted it to exude a quiet strength and nobility, to look equally as graceful as it does gritty. I wanted it to have both weight and weightlessness. I wanted it to look like a dadgum stallion, and it does; Praise The Lord.
On to the next project! With some luck we'll see something feathered and closer to home.
Huge thanks to Prairie Arts Center for having me!

Here are a couple of Christmas birds, gifts for my sister and a good friend of mine. I love that moment when a hummingbird approaches a flower and throws the articulate little fan of its tail out to steady itself. The other one is made using a pair of scissors for the wings, with an Emily Dickinson quote etched into brass on the side. "Hope is the thing with feathers," it reads. Perfect for Christmas and a New Year!

Here is the finished install on my first commissioned piece, the "Spirit De Vess."

After 80 hours, 163 horseshoes, and one long haul to central Kansas it has found its home as the center piece for my clients' home. It is designed after the logo for their dressage stables, Haras de Vess.

I had a lot of fun with this one, especially feeling out the contours of the neck. I gave it a subtle turn to create the impression that the stallion has just noticed the viewer. I also like how it is balanced on a single point, which gives it a feeling of weightlessness.

More to come!
