Singing, humming, whistling or producing pitch from your voice helps you to find the notes that you hear. It is you that becomes the instrument. You don't have to have a great voice to learn pitch associations. If you have never attempted singing you will have hard time playing them on any instrument. Singing lessons are a good because they help your association with pitch and tone. Don't be afraid to start warbling. Shouting, humming and screaming can help break your voice out of monotonous prison.
