Do you ever wonder what your professor is up to when they're not teaching? Well, this rare look at eleven fine arts faculty members pulls back the curtain to reveal some interesting answers.

Professor Francie Riddle has been teaching a wide range of art courses at STCC since 2007. This past January 2026, she started a snow sculpture in her front yard. A very large sculpture as seen on the front page of the Daily Gazette Hampshire. Over the summer, she continued her sculptural work to better understand a tragedy.

Check out this and other artwork at the Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery located in the fine arts building (b28), through October 16.

In 1988, the first fine arts graduates of STCC walked in the commencement ceremony. Since that time, the Fine Arts program has graduated 164 students with an associate’s degree. Graduates can transfer to a four-year program, enter the workforce, or live with an appreciation for art that can last a lifetime.

Today, these eleven faculty members support 76 FINE.AA majors, and over 500 students are enrolled in fine arts courses across all majors this fall. Their commitment to excellence in teaching and artmaking practice makes this program a beacon of creativity and support for artists of all ages in Springfield.
