So yesterday I had this poor women in here all upset because some tattoo shop, that I guess offers piercings, told her that I put, and I quote “mouth jewelry” in her daughters ears. I attempted to explain that these were industry standard, titanium micro-flat back posts, showing her the difference from a labret post you’d use for something like a philtrum.
Now imo she was justifiably upset in her belief I had done something like that, and in no way expect her herself to know the difference.
fact: Bryce and I DO actually pull out tons of “lip jewelry” out of ppl’s Tragus and helix piercings every week; so there are shops out there that do drop these big, clunky, externally threaded labrets in ppls ears; it really does happen. We kinda assume that the reason for it is cost cutting, I mean I get that the materials / jewelry we use are getting prohibitively expensive, and these flat backs; either internally threaded or threadless are easily amongst the priciest of stock jewelry we have to purchase.
The idea though that there’s a place offering piercings that doesn’t even know what one of these are, or even the difference between the two is whats terrifying to me.
I asked the women if the place did piercings with the gun and she said no, that they do pierce with needles. So is there really a place around dropping conventional ears studs in with a needle? If anyone’s had this happen to them or knows what place does this please share in the comments; we’d love to know
