Our next Society Meeting takes place on June 18th at 7pm with Guest Speaker Danny Atchley!
“I am as Springfield as the Yellow Jackets and as Robertson County as the Courthouse" said Danny Atchley recently. Danny is known by many for his work with local nonprofits, such as Willow Oak Center, the Robertson County Players and Community Spirit. He is also currently serving as president of the Robertson County Historical Society.
Danny grew up in Springfield, the oldest of three brothers born to C.B."Bee” Atchley and Joyce Farmer Atchley. He is married to the former Nelda Siske and they have three children and three wonderful grandchildren that they spoil as often as they can.
The subject of the program for Thursday, June 18 at 7 pm will be Making Hands, a musical drama by playwright Mark Edens, which is being produced by Danny, which tells the history of Robertson County through drama and music. Making Hands will be arriving at the historic Innovation Academy Auditorium in Springfield on July 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19 in time for our nation's 250th Birthday Celebration.
Making Hands, is a first time co-production between the Robertson County Players and Community Spirit, Inc., with help from the Robertson County Historical Society. For the Making Hands music, Bel Stuart, of the Rural Arts Cooperative, has composed original songs to help tell the County's dramatic story. Veteran theater director and actress Ruthanna Fletcher, will helm the action on stage for the production. The story of Making Hands focuses on Robertson County’s early pioneer days, the Civil War and the Black Patch War, and will then end with the growing strife between family farms and modern urbanization in Robertson County.
