Jess Romney Art Welcome to the bright side—original art and commissions created to shine as bright as you. Hey there! My name is Jess and I am so glad you're here.

I am a mark maker, art educator, and full time dream chaser. I love to create! While acrylic paint is my go-to medium, I enjoy exploring beyond it, creating with watercolor, clay, ink, and chalk to keep my creative process fresh and dynamic. There is really no art material off limits when it comes to my creativity. My work is a reflection of my deep love of nature and the inspiration it brings me. I am fascinated with color, line and texture and often incorporate these elements in layers of flowing linework, bold colors, and unusual patterns.

Each artist has their own method to their madness.

I work in layers and always find myself starting a painting through playing with colors, textures, and patterns. I love seeing where each painting leads me .

Once I feel that the background captures the mood, I work on creating my subject with luminous colors and adding intricate details.

I try to maintain a sense of balance for myself in my art making process. Balance between experimentation and structure.

I need both to thrive.

Sounds simple enough but, as an adult, one of the hardest things to make time for is play.

For me, it's a necessity. I have found that playing with my art supplies helps me understand the material better and brings out my expressive mark making.

Although I consider acrylic paint my go to medium right now, I am constantly playing with new materials to keep my art making fresh.

Open those unused art supplies.
Play for a while.
