Reviews for Sher Fick’s “Coping Skills” (currently traveling in TAKE CARE: Biomedical Ethics in the 21st Century" Group Exhibition)

"Fick’s work examine[s] normality and the question of enhancement versus therapy... [t]he vibrancy and symbolism commemorating her past self and simultaneously rejoicing in the person these pharmaceuticals have allowed her to become.”
- Tonya Vernooy, Art Critic/Writer

The work “celebrates the success of [Fick’s] determined efforts to stitch the fractured parts of her personality into a coherent persona . . . Fick defies the stigma against the use of prescription drugs to assist women in becoming responsible and loving mothers.”
- Linda Weintraub, Art Critic, Writer & Curator

“Although Fick does not wrap an entire bridge traversing the River Seine, she brings revelation to one’s own capacity to cope through a concrete process of concealing.”
- Rachel Bubis, Curator of SEEDspace, from her Curatorial statement "Wrapped." "This all-American wife and mother works issues of bioethics, gender, and discrimination... her exploration of gender borrows from artists who deal specifically with materiality, symbols, and even craft, such as Kiki Smith and Louise Bourgeois... Fick’s exploration of modern medicine and its social stigmas falls in line with work by artists such as Damien Hirst..."
- Excerpts from Chen Tamir’s "Worshipping at the Altar of Biomedicine Review," catalogue for SEEDspace 2010 Inaugural Exhibition.

This afternoon in Dublin, Ireland. First pints demand photos, though I'm not to be in them. Viewing from the far left. Dublin, Ireland. Scouting the city for our end of year Holiday trip with our 3 babies - grab our chance while no one is married. Now the food arrived, so photo session 2. Love Ireland Ireland Travel Planning Tips —- thanks to my Irish groups in finding taxis and traveling from Mulranny House B&B to city center.

What an amazing reminder! Each object we “make/do/express” is a stepping stone and the process of each, does matter.

Have taken a medically necessary 'hiatus' from the studio (the new one of which I haven't even used) . . . Continue to work on healing, including a recent COVID positivity (most likely exposed at ER 6 days earlier when I needed IVing). You can't win sometimes. So, throwing a co-hosted 56th birthday party to CELEBRATE living to Year 4 of the Plague, before getting said Plague. Happy to be alive for one more year, this is my "annum horribite". Highlight: seeing P!nk in September, but 2 surgeries and 1 procedure, and the world anxiety, is definitely affecting my health/mind. Many new ideas brewing while I care for other things, may have a BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES STUDIO sale when I am up to it. Either it gets BOUGHT, GIVEN, or BURNT.

A few items heading to Florence, Italy (sans me, due to the total knee replacement). I will have such new fodder to expose in new artworks . . . still need to finalize my selections, so thrilled! Listening to P!nk 's new album, as I cannot attend shows this summer, due to surgery. Music keeps me company while working, though. It makes me feel ALIVE, even if I cannot see them LIVE. Love, Life, Pain, Art, and Music go on, and on, and on . . . for me they are ONE/ME.
