MusicFest Northwest is pleased to announce the winners of our 2026 Young Artist Competition. Winners will perform with the
Spokane Symphony on November 12, 2026, 7:30pm at the Fox Theater. Our voice winner, Maegan Hoogerhyde, will perform at the Spokane Symphony Labor Day Park concerts on September 5 & 7.

More about Michael:

Michael Perry is a senior Music Education major at Whitworth University. He is a native of Richland, Washington, and graduated from Hanford High School. Michael is the principal tubist in the Whitworth Wind Symphony and bass trombonist in the Whitworth Jazz Orchestra. As a sophomore, he won the university’s annual Concerto Competition, earning the opportunity to perform with the Whitworth orchestra. After completing his degree, Michael plans to remain in Washington and pursue a career as a music educator.

MusicFest Northwest is pleased to announce the winners of our 2026 Young Artist Competition. Winners will perform with the
Spokane Symphony on November 12, 2026, 7:30pm at the Fox Theater. Our voice winner, Maegan Hoogerhyde, will perform at the Spokane Symphony Labor Day Park concerts on September 5 & 7.

More about Linda:

Linda Ouimette is a 16-year-old pianist from Spokane, Washington and studies piano with Barbara Miller. She began playing piano at the age of six and has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her musical studies, including multiple Gold Medals and Adjudicator’s Choice at MusicFest Northwest, a WSMTA State Recitalist Winner, and receiving an Honorable Mention award in the MTNA Junior Piano Competition. An honor roll student at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington, she is actively involved in student leadership and community service through several school organizations, including serving as President of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Outside of music, Linda enjoys spending time with her six-year-old brother, Teddy, helping him with his piano studies, and going on walks with her two dogs.

VOICE DIVISION: Maegan Hoogerhyde, soprano

MusicFest Northwest is pleased to announce the winners of our 2026 Young Artist Competition. Winners will perform with the
Spokane Symphony on November 12, 2026, 7:30pm at the Fox Theater. Our voice winner, Maegan Hoogerhyde, will perform at the Spokane Symphony Labor Day Park concerts on September 5 & 7.

More about Maegan:
Soprano Maegan Hoogerhyde holds degrees in voice from Montclair State University and New England Conservatory, and maintains an active performing and teaching career. In the 2025-2026 season, she appeared as Gilda (Rigoletto) and the title role of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah in scenes with Opera Atlantic, and was chosen as the voice division winner of the MusicFest Northwest Young Artist Competition. Other recent highlights include Mimì (La bohème) and the title role of Thaïs in scenes with the Manetti Shrem Opera Program at Festival Napa Valley. She has performed with Boheme Opera NJ and New Jersey Opera Theater, and as a soloist with the Adelphi Orchestra, Englewinds, Blackburn Music Academy Orchestra, Orchestra 201, and New Jersey Vocal Arts Collaborative. Along with her active performance career, Maegan maintains a successful voice studio in the North Jersey area.

More about Gabriel:

Gabriel Roller is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance under Dr. Javier Rodriguez at the University of Idaho. Mr. Roller received his Bachelors of Music Education from Northwest Missouri State University studying under Dr. Joseph Tomasso. Mr. Roller has performed as principal bassoon, second bassoon, and contra-bassoon in ensembles such as the University of Idaho Orchestra and Wind Symphony, National Intercollegiate Band, CBDNA Intercollegiate Honor Band, and many more. After completing his master's degree, Mr. Roller plans on studying abroad, pursuing a performance career, and pursuing a career in university education.

More about Sage:
Sage Sorensen lives in Pendleton, Oregon and started playing violin at around the age of 5. She has been studying with Spokane Symphony concert master Mr. Mateusz Wolski since 2020 and is extremely grateful for his unwavering support and encouragement. Sage is a member of the Spokane Youth Symphony orchestra and chamber group. She enjoys reading and being in nature. Her future plans are to continue studying music and furthering her education.

Registration for the MFNW Young Artist Competition is still open today through March 15! Click the link below to register and find out repertoire details. This year's entrance fee is $125, and winners will have the opportunity to perform with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra on November 12 of this year. The competition is being held May 15-16, 2026 on the Gonzaga University campus. We are accepting applicants of ages 16-27 (or 16-29 for Voice).

Registration for The MusicFest Northwest 2026 Young Artist Competition is open and eagerly accepting applications for this year's event! Register today at the link below before March 15, and check out our website for repertoire details. Our entrance fee is $125, and winners will have the opportunity to perform with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra next Fall. The competition is being held May 15-16, 2026 on the Gonzaga University campus. Please note that the only component required is the concerto movement - personal choice repertoire will not be required in 2026. Be part of something special and register today!
