Meet Riley Yates, a 2026 TEDxSpokane Speaker! Riley is a Spokane-based young author who started writing in eighth grade and hasn’t looked back. With three self-published novels under his belt and a fourth in the works, Riley is on a mission to tell stories that matter. He founded a creative writing club at his high school and speaks regularly at local schools, inspiring others to discover the stories within themselves.
When he’s not writing, you’ll find him on the tennis court, playing pickleball, or mastering the bagpipes! Meet Sheila , 2026 TEDx Speaker! Sheila is a community-builder at heart and a lifelong advocate for personal growth through intentional connection. Her career spans decades in youth development and the summer camp world, with leadership roles at Cheley CO Camps and Camp Nor’wester in the San Juan Islands. Today, her work has taken a meaningful new turn as she serves aging adults at the Lake Ballinger Center, continuing her lifelong commitment to care, belonging, and human connection. A writer and spoken-word poet, Sheila shares reflections rooted in reinvention, shared humanity, and the threads that bind us together. Her words invite us to pause, to wonder, and to reconnect—with ourselves and with one another. Originally from Nebraska and now living in Lynnwood, WA with her partner Janie and their sweet cat Murphy, Sheila describes herself best this way:
Her spirit is rooted in the outdoors.
Her mind is open to the mystical.
And as a seeker, her heart is defined by boundless curiosity—and the pursuit of wonder, love, and connection.

Say hello to Rory Sade! Rory is a multi-disciplinary composer and sound designer known for blending the elegance of classical piano with the edge of electronic production. Originally from Michigan, Rory studied audio engineering at SFCC and worked with Spokane’s internationally acclaimed studio, Bing Bang Boom. His compositions have been featured in film trailers, advertisements, and theatrical productions. As a top honoree at Spokane’s Musicfest Northwest, Rory has studied under renowned Serbian pianist Ivana Cojbasic and performed internationally. Beyond music, he’s a film photography enthusiast, a WWII history buff, and a fan of cross-country train travel.
