Please join us this Friday, Jan. 30th from 11:30am-12:30pm for a panel discussion on the current exhibition in the SFCC Photography Gallery, followed by a closing reception. We are pleased to welcome four PCNW: Photographic Center Northwest photographers to discuss their class and related exhibition, Nurturance and Ambition: Motherhood in Photography, and will include several more of the 18 participants virtually. The panel discussion will be held in sƛ̓x̣etkʷ, the Fine and Applied Arts Building (building 32), room #218, with a closing reception immediately after, in the lobby.

If you are unable to attend these events, we hope you'll stop by the gallery this week and see this unique group exhibition before it closes on Friday!
The gallery is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm.

We look forward to a thoughtful discussion on juggling motherhood, ambition, and the creative process so please join us!

The eighteen photographers participating in this month's Nurturance and Ambition: Motherhood in Photography group exhibition were students in a course of the same name through Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle. They are female-identifying caregivers, some are mothers of children ranging from toddlers to college students, caregivers to aging parents and one is a social worker, caring for others through her profession. With the guidance of their photography instructors, Annabel Clark and Anna Ream, students explore their dual roles as both caretaker and artist through photographic practice.

Please visit the SFCC Photography Gallery this month to see the unique ways these photographers portray their experiences. Join us January 30th for a panel discussion featuring several of the photographers, followed by a closing reception.

We hope to see you there!

The inaugural photographic exhibition opens today in SFCC’s new Fine & Applied Arts building, Ska-hét (sƛ̓x̣etkʷ)! This faculty show celebrates the work of our current photography and digital filmmaking instructors: Ira Gardner, Marc Harvey, Ian LaBarge, Tegra Stone Nuess, Melissa Rackham and Erik Sohner. Due to construction-related delays, the exhibition is prominently featured in the massive lobby space rather than the new gallery, which will open soon. The exhibition, which runs through October 18th, was curated by SFCC’s new Photography Gallery Director, Melissa Rackham. We hope you will stop by and join us in celebrating the stunning work of these talented instructors!
