Tune in to SPR Classical this week during "Morning Classical" for a "Poetry Moment" tribute to the late poet and EWU professor Nance Van Winckel. Over the course of her career, Van Winckel published 17 books of poetry, founded Writers in the Community, a public-service internship that provides creative writing instruction to children in schools, and was the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships, the Washington State Book Award, a Paterson Fiction Prize, the Poetry Society of America’s Gordon Barber Award, a Christopher Isherwood Fellowship and three Pushcart Prizes.

Join Spokane Public Radio in welcoming Substitute Classical Host Chelsea DuVall to the SPR Classical airwaves! Chelsea will be filling in for Henry McNulty during "Afternoon Classical" for the next few days.

Chelsea DuVall began her music studies as a classical pianist, but now works primarily as a vocalist and teaching artist in Spokane. She studied music in her undergraduate degree at Northern Illinois University and went on to complete her Master of Fine Arts in Acting and Playwriting at California Institute of the Arts. She recently completed the National Tour of Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, but can be seen performing locally with Spokane Civic Theatre, Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre and with Jenny Shotwell Studios.

Tune into SPR News (KPBX 91.1 Spokane) tonight from 6-8p for a special broadcast of Spokane Complex Fire Benefit Concert. Last night our friends gathered local musicians, community leaders, friends, and neighbors for the Spokane Fire Benefit Show. The concert featured a mixed genre lineup from local artists: Them Beautiful Hounds, Scott Ryan Ingersol, Nate Synonymous, Landon Spencer, Aspen Kye, Estimate, and Tomboy. All donations from the evening went to support the H.O.M.E.S. Start Here Fund, whose current focus is helping out members of our community directly affected by the Spokane Complex Fires. SPR is pleased to share two hours of this community event as we all look for ways to connect, and find healing as our community gathers to support victims of the Spokane Complex Fires.
