Let me (re)introduce myself…

My name is Amber, and I’m originally from Central Nebraska

I have my BA and MFA in Dance and a 200 hr yoga teacher certification

Moved to Spokane in January 2025 from almost a decade in the Philadelphia area

I enjoy discussing why ballet isn’t the basis of all dance…it was codified in France in the late 1600s, and people have been dancing or ritualistically moving since the dawn of time

I’ve self-produced six going on seven shows

My current full-length creative project, Liminal, is about changelings, neurodivergence, and liminal spaces and will premiere in December 2026 Stage Left Theater

I’m perpetually applying for grants, performance opportunities, and residencies at this stage in my dance career

Commercial and concert-trained dancer/dance educator/choreographer, with a background in go-go dancing and ritual performance

I do miss the East Coast, but I am enjoying the Spokane arts and dance scene

Passionate about accessibility and whole-person-centered dance approaches, especially from a neurodivergent lens

You can find me teaching dance and somatics-based classes in the greater Spokane area

Join us for a 90-minute class focused on somatic sensations, accompanied by the soothing vibrations of live handpan music. This guided session will include sitting and lying postures, breath work, gentle self-massage, and a body scan. We will explore how our bodies hold emotions and tension through the Three Cauldrons. 

This class aims to help you understand your internal and external sensations, learn nervous system regulation techniques, and promote awareness of your mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Donations will go to Jordan Wertman and Family, who were catastrophically affected by the Spokane wildfires—GoFundMe Link Below and in BIO.

Please wear comfortable clothing, bring your own mat or blanket, and water. Spots are limited to 20 participants.

July is Disability Pride Month, which also commemorates the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, put into effect on July 26, 1990. We want to take a moment to celebrate our work in “Liminal” highlighting neurodivergent individuals through our neurodiverse cast, focusing on themes like raising accessibility awareness and fighting for societal inclusion.

We would like to share one of our works in progress that employs performance elements such as choreographed flocking, with a single dancer navigating between the performers, accompanied by a bird-chirping soundscape. This approach highlights rigid neurotypical behavioral structures that can be challenging for neurodivergent individuals.

“Liminal” is an interdisciplinary ritual that explores the threshold space of vulnerability through the changeling folktale from a neurodivergent perspective. This full-length production will premiere December 4th-6th, 2026, at Stage Left Theater in Spokane, WA.

Amber Hongsermeier/Dancers will premiere a new full-length dance production, “Liminal,” from December 4th-6th, 2026, at Stage Left Theater in Spokane, WA. “Liminal” is an interdisciplinary ritual that explores vulnerability through the changeling folktale from a neurodivergent perspective. 

To support the local arts community, we are specifically seeking visual artists from the Inland Northwest who wish to showcase their work as part of the stage design.

Thank you, Robert Sevilla, for inviting me to the Creative Mindset podcast, broadcast from the downtown Spokane Library by KYRS. We discussed the vibrant arts communities in Spokane, the role of creative practices that draw on ritual and myth, and the lack of visibility for dance in the Spokane arts ecosystem. Additionally, we talked about my newest dance project, Liminal, set to premiere in December of 2026. Liminal will be an interdisciplinary performance ritual that explores the threshold of vulnerability through the lens of the changeling folktale from a neurodivergent perspective.

I am seeking adult dancers in the Spokane area for a new dance project.

The themes of this project will explore threshold spaces, the Celtic and Germanic changeling folktale, and neurodivergence. It aims to investigate the delicate balance between the joy of our authentic selves and the pressure to conform to social rituals for survival and success.

I adopt an interdisciplinary and somatically based approach to dance. This means we will incorporate disciplines such as spoken word, live music, and flow arts while focusing on functional, effortless movement.

Additionally, I employ a praxis approach to my creative process, ensuring that all movement is grounded in theoretical concepts drawn from fields such as cultural anthropology and psychology.

Audition for “Liminal” ✨

Amber Hongsermeier/Dancers is seeking intermediate to advanced movement artists (18+) for a new full-length interdisciplinary work premiering at Stage Left Theater from December 4th to 6th, 2026. The main themes explored will include liminal and threshold spaces, the changeling folktale, and neurodivergence.

Audition Details:
- Date: Sunday, May 31, 2026
- Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
- Location: Spokane, WA (Address available in the registration form that is in our bio)

What to Expect: The audition is free and will be conducted as a class, featuring a blend of ballet, contemporary, and jazz techniques, as well as floor work and improvisation. There will also be a brief discussion to provide more information about the project and to address any questions you may have. This project offers a small stipend.
