Before we ramp up with more festival info and goodies in store, we’d like to take a beat and reflect on how far our small collective has come.

On July 28, 2025, our artist collective became an official 501(c)(3) arts non-profit—a chapter in our journey that feels right, nurturing, and grounding. It inspires us tenfold as we help open doors for emerging and professional creatives, innovators, small businesses, and dreamers.

Led by 4 creatives: Olivia Evans, T.S Pearson, Jaiz Boyd, and James Pakootas. Hand in hand, we journey together to carve out safe, creative sanctuary spaces across the city and beyond. As a small team of artists, teachers, business owners, and parents, we lay the groundwork so others don’t have to fight as hard to be heard.

The Root Experience is a BIPOC-led non-profit organization that amplifies BIPOC & underrepresented voices by showcasing diverse lived experiences. Through art, gathering, and mentorship, we champion racial & social justice, healing, and empowering the next generation.
Our mission is to amplify BIPOC voices across all disciplines. We aim to show Spokane & the PNW the common threads of cultural knowledge, creativity, and storytelling, aiding in collective synchronicity. We instill the truth that there is always a way to come back home, guided by our core principle: We Rise Together. 🌱

IT’S OFFICIAL — The Root Experience Festival 2026 Official Selections are here!! ✨🥁

The Root Experience is excited to announce this year’s acceptees from our call for submissions. We are beyond overwhelmed by the love, support, authentic spirit, and good energy engrained in this festival.

This festival is more than a 3-day event—it is a confirmation that BIPOC artists, storytellers, innovators, and creators belong, thrive, and lead. No matter your culture or lived experience, there should be safe spaces to be who you are, find healing, have fun, and grow professionally. This is that sanctuary. Thank you for submitting, participating, and being a part of an ecosystem that nurtures camaraderie!!

We can’t wait to share space, build community, and celebrate the phenomenal talent taking the stage, gallery, and all aspects of this year in Airway Heights & Spokane! Congrats to everyone! 🌿✨

It’s Official — The R.E.F. 2026 Call for Submissions are Closed!! 💫

“Our team here at The Root Experience are humbled by the love, support, and energy that circulates the Festival and its message. We see the festival as an equal platform and sanctuary for BIPOC Peoples to present their art and ideas, as well as make meaningful longterm connections.

Creativity & storytelling are already imbedded within you, created or envisioned, it is taking the courageous steps to find what mediums you vibe with and carve space in this world to share them with others. Art is a process always. Like anything, it takes time, patience, open mindedness, technique, and your authentic spirit (all unique to you and learned) — as artists we know this.
