Some news I thought I would share. Apparently the 3rd floor museum items from the the Former Iowa Braille School are now going to be sold off. Sad to see the history being sold away. I’ve copied the auction listing information description. I’ve also attached a few pictures. Here is the description.
This will be the final online auction for this historic facility. With heat no longer being provided to the building, the owners were faced with the difficult decision of what to do with the remaining third-floor museum pieces and related items. Given the historical significance of many of these pieces and the concern that continued exposure to an unheated building could lead to deterioration, the decision was made to offer the remaining items at online auction, allowing them to be preserved, appreciated and cared for by their next owners.
The auction includes a wonderful collection of items representing many years of the facility’s history, including band instruments and uniforms, cheerleading memorabilia, sets of Braille books, vintage furniture and stacking bookcases, a large Braille globe and state map puzzle board, medical-related items, beautiful oak file and storage cabinets, pictures and artwork, wooden toys, children's desks and chairs, gymnastics equipment and much more. We recognize the importance these items and this facility have to the community and hope this auction provides an opportunity for former students, staff, local residents, collectors and others with a connection to the facility to preserve these pieces for years to come. NOTE: No personal pictures and most of the ledgers will not be included in this auction. There will be some pictures of the facility as well as only a handful of ornate ledgers being offered.
