Male Presenting Roles - Characters
CLAUDE (40’s-60’s) – Popular Mayor of Gander facing an unprecedented crisis.
OZ (30’s-50’s) – The quirky constable in the two-person Gander police force, that helps out in unexpected ways.
DOUG/NICK (50’s-60’s) – Doug: an air traffic controller helping his wife and the animals. Nick: An English oil engineer whose life is turned upside down when he falls for Diane.
KEVIN T/GARTH (50’s-60’s) – Garth: The head of the local union, representing the Bus Drivers. Kevin T: The head of an environmental energy company, Kevin was on vacation with his boyfriend when they are stranded in Gander. Inspired by the town's generosity, Kevin creates the Pay It Forward Foundation.
KEVIN J/ALI (30’s-50’s) (Middle Eastern, North African) Kevin J: Kevin's boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy. Ali: a Muslim man who experiences prejudice during the events surrounding the September 11th attacks.
BOB (20’s-40’s) (Black) – Skeptical New Yorker transformed by the town’s kindness.
Female Presenting Roles - Characters
BONNIE (30’s-40’s) A no-nonsense mother of three, Bonnie is the head of the Gander area SPCA.
BEULAH (40’s-60’s) The head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son, who walks Hannah to her church and prays with her.
JANICE (20’s-30’s) Eager new local TV reporter, Janice is thrown into the deep end on her first day.
ANNETTE/BEVERLY (40’s-60’s) Annette: A local teacher at the Gander Academy and mother to a lot of children. Beverly: The first female captain for American Airlines Pilot.
DIANE (50’s-60’s) Texas divorcee who is terrified that her son may have been flying at the time of the attacks. When she finds out that he's safe, she's given a new lease on life.
HANNAH (40’s-60’s) (Black) The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan, Hanna waits for news about her son and is comforted by Beulah.
