Coming soon to the Richardson Family Art Gallery: Reject The Null

On view September 1 through December 11, Reject The Null brings together artists Scott Carter, Annie Heisel, Jason Lord, and Kate Timbes in an exhibition curated by Wofford AAH alumna Annie Heisel.

“In a world filled to the brim by exchanges of energy, material matter, and ongoing systems, Reject the Null utilizes experimentation to better understand humanity’s place within a chaotic yet interconnected natural world.”

In July the Studio Art summer research group had a long day of visiting museums and artist studios in Charlotte! We began with a visit to the Bechtler Museum to see a show curated by Jiha Moon 문지하 and a solo show by David McGee. Then we went to Goodyear Arts to see the studios of quỳnh and Amy Herman. After a quick stop at the Gantt Center, we wrapped up the day with four visits McColl Center with artists-in-residence baylee schmitt and Nastassja E. Swift and two exhibition fellows Annie Heisel and Will White | Fashion Designer and Musician. Thank you so much to all the artists who offered to share their work with us!

Now on view in the Richardson Family Art Gallery: After All. Asolo exhibition by Chloe Kaylor, on view through August 8.

Grounded in the aesthetics and material culture of the artist’s Southern Appalachian roots. After All examines how awareness of death informs systems of belief, acts of care, domestic ritual, and the objects we create to withstand the passage of time.

We invite you to experience this thoughtful exhibition during gallery hours.

Meet the Artist⤵️
Mills Brown is a visual artist based in Oxford, UK. Mills works with painting, drawing and animation to explore themes of memory, safety and family. Originally from South Carolina, Mills embraces a Southern Gothic sensibility where the supernatural exists alongside the mundane. She is interested in ordinary moments of domestic life and family stories that refuse to settle neatly into the past. Recent work explores new parenthood, illustrating quiet scenes of shared wonder and protectiveness. Mills holds an MFA in Studio Art from American University and a BA in English and Art History from Wofford College. Mills has exhibited in Oxford, London, Washington, Charleston and Lake City. She works at Modern Art Oxford to design participatory opportunities for families to play and create through engagement with contemporary art.
